Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor in between well and badly arranged constellations

- Alan Watts

The Master was conducting a lesson related to Zeť. He was responsible for teaching various fighting techniques and one of them included Zeť.

Zeť was a technique that a living being can use to manipulate their own life energy also known as aura. A person who was capable of using Zeť was known as Zeť user.

Aura was the life energy produced by all living beings that was vital for survival. The aura had a tendency to flow together from all parts of the body producing a small mass of energy. The beings who were unaware of it didn't notice it as only a small amount of aura flowed from some small part of their body without any serious consequences. However, if an individual has all their aura pores open and does not try to close them, they would lose their energy and grow fatigued enough to lose consciousness.

One of the first steps when learning Zeť was to learn to open the aura pores to generate the aura.

There were two ways to open the aura pores. A time-consuming but standard and efficient way included months of meditation and focus. The second and ill-advised way was –semi-force, where non-violent or indirect attacks were used to force open the non-user's aura pores. In that way, Zeť user could transfer some of his aura to the non-user, causing his aura pores to open. But this way was rarely used.

Only when an individual was done with that step, he could see and sense his own and other Zeť users' aura. A normal aura felt like a warm, viscid liquid at rest. Different people's aura felt different depending on the power, amount of practice, and level of experience. The sensation of an aura ranged from light to almost prickly like needles or heavy enough to push others away. The aura's power and range varied for different people.

Zeť had three basic uses:

▹ To fight
▹ To defend
▹ To display one's aura to others. (Just to threaten others in most cases)

Most teachers showed a clear disapproval towards teaching Zeť due to the danger it posed to a user if the user was inexperienced or had malicious intent. For instance, if an individual tried to learn Zeť without enough and appropriate training, he might not know a proper way to close the aura pores and would suffer from extreme exhaustion due to the loss of energy.

Nonetheless, The Master taught the technique to his students. He thought that its uses outweighed the risks.

If a Zeť user used Zeť and another non-user tried to face him without using Zeť then he would be severely injured from the other's energy. At times, a hostile aura could make the non-users halt in their tracks as the aura would act as a barrier, making non-users unable to move any further. Hence, it was important for the beings to learn Zeť. Zeť users also possessed an advantage over the rare magical beasts that didn't know the technique.
