A few weeks passed, nothing of interest happening, almost as if Marinette and her court had gone back on their promise to destroy Lila.
At least, that was how she saw it.
Lila smirked at Marinette's figure as the supposed 'Queen' made her way to the back of the room. She held her head high, which, admittedly, was quite annoying, but Lila didn't think much of it.
However, while Lila thought her Empire was stable, those who had previously seen the Queen's Reign in action knew that It was coming.
Some, mainly those who weren't on her side, would shake in their shoes at the sight of Marinette strutting the halls, while others, the ones who were safely on her side, bowed their heads, smug smiles on their faces.
Whispers would rise across the cafeteria, some about when It would finally come, while others debated how it would be done. No matter who whispered, none were about how the Queen didn't stand a chance. Even those under Lila's rule were 100% sure that their Empire only had a few days left.
And while some attempted to switch to Mari's side, others knew it would be of no use. Even if they were accepted to the other side, they would still receive their punishment.
And that was if you made it to the other side.
Switching to Mari's side was always one of the most difficult things to accomplish. Some would say that passing Mme. Mendeleieve's class would be easier. Others said that beating Ladybug, an impossible feat, would be easier.
This didn't stop those few shallow idiots who always switched to the winning side.
Marinette was constantly bombarded with people demanding they receive a pin.
None of them ever got one.
This pattern was the norm for nearly a month. All until one day, when Marinette stopped next to Mlle. Bustier's desk, setting a sealed envelope on it, right smack in the middle, where it was sure to get noticed. After doing so, she simply smiled and followed the rest of her court to their seats.
Everyone, except Lila, of course, had noticed, and promptly paled.
It had begun.
Mlle. Bustier finally entered the room as the bell rang, and started the class. She finally noticed the letter about halfway into the lesson. She paused in her lecture to open the letter and carefully scan it.
Marinette and her court smirked as they watched their teacher pale, eyes moving back to the top of the paper and fully re-reading, then reading through it once again, just to be sure.
After a couple of minutes, Mlle. Bustier's eyes snapped to the back of the class, zeroing in on Marinette and her satisfied smile. The young teacher stood and exited the room, leaving the letter on the desk. The class burst into whispers, all eyes on the door, waiting to see if Mlle. Bustier returned.
She never did.
Ten minutes later, Mme. Mendeleieve walked in, clearing her throat to get the class's attention. The room quickly quieted, and Mme. Mendeleieve frowned as she gave the news that Mlle. Bustier had been fired by the school board, along with M. Damocles.
The class hadn't even waited until Mme. Mendeleieve was finished, all whipping around in their seats to stare at Marinette, who was still smirking cynically.
Realizing the attention was all on her, Marinette gave the class a quick, unsettling wink, before turning her attention back to Mme. Mendeleieve.
"Ahem." The class slowly turned back to their strict science and math teacher, shock over-riding their systems. "As I was saying, since your teacher has been fired, I will fill in until the substitute arrives."
