loud bickering coming from y/n l/n and atsumu miya wasn't anything new for anyone. this time, they argued over who was going to be the team captain for their dodgeball team during their physical education class. everyone in their class waited for them to stop, some of them found it amusing and made bets about who would win.
"i already told sensei, i'd be team captain!" y/n shouts, taking the dodgeball from atsumu's hands. before he could step forward to take the ball, y/n holds her hand out, nudging him away from it.
"everyone here knows i'm more qualified to be team captain," atsumu defends, pushing away y/n's arm. because atsumu was angry, he pushed her a little too hard which resulted in her falling back.
in the corner of her eye, she sees the girls in her class worried, along with some of the boys. y/n gives atsumu a sadistic smirk before bursting out into tears that caught him off guard. "sensei! atsumu pushed me!" she cries, holding her wrist to her eye as she stares directly at atsumu.
"liar! you liar! you're not hurt! you're pretending to cry!" atsumu shouts, pointing at her. y/n cried louder, letting out more tears which made him rethink if he was pretending or not.
"miya! l/n! outside, now!" their physical education teacher shouts across the gym.
—
"this is exactly why i don't let you both play on the same team. one of you always ends up crying, or worse, shouting even louder than before," their teacher says, crossing his arms over his chest as he stares down at y/n and atsumu. their gym teacher wasn't the most enthusiastic about his job, y/n and atsumu made sure about that.
y/n has no trace of redness around her eyes or nose, nor any emotional expression that indicated her crying was real. meanwhile, atsumu has no trace of regret and they both knew that he'd probably push her again if he had the chance.
"you both need to learn how to get along. i don't care if you both becomes friends, just able to be in the same room without fighting," their teacher walks towards the gym, "i hate my job," he mumbles to himself.
"you're a real pain in everyone's ass, y'know that?" y/n tells atsumu, which unfortunately gained the attention of their gym teacher again.
without turning around to confront the two, he blows his whistle to start the dodgeball game. "miya, l/n, you both are sitting out for the dodgeball tournament."
"what? why!" atsumu and y/n both shout, following their teacher into the gym.
"did you both not hear anything i just said?" their teacher says, turning over his shoulder. "l/n, you already insulted miya." y/n and atsumu look away, clearly not listening to whatever their teacher told them.
they sat about a meter away from each other, both silently watching the dodgeball game they both wanted to be in. "maybe if you weren't rude all the time, we wouldn't have gotten in trouble," atsumu mumbles, loud enough for y/n to hear.
"stop acting like it's not entirely your fault," y/n scoffs.
"huh? it's not my fault you pretended to cry and try to get everyone on your side," atsumu began to shout, clenching his hand into a fist as he stares at y/n.
"if you think about it, you just had to let me be team captain and we'd both be playing dodgeball right now," y/n adds, turning to face him with her hand clenching into a fist. they both stare at each other for a moment, then quickly standing up and charging at each other.
"sensei! y/n and atsumu are fighting again!" a girl in their class shouts, watching atsumu and y/n struggle to push each other to the floor.
