The wind blew through her hair, the waves crashed against the bow of 'Wally.' It was a funny name for a ship, but it actually had a deeper meaning than people would often  think.

It stood for the nickname of Lucy's mother, named Walda. She was a marine biologist and loved to study the behaviour of many sea-creatures. Especially whales and dolphins. She used to tell all kind of stories to Lucy, who was always admiring the many adventures her mother had experienced in the deep, mysterious place called: The sea.

Lucy was 7 years old when her mother suddenly dissapeared at one of her diving expeditions. It was because of an unexpected squall that crossed the ocean, exact at the place where she was diving. It was the heaviest squall in 10 years, and the whole group of divers were never seen again. The captain of the expeditionship was the only one that could tell the story  afterwards. And that captain was Lucy's father.

Since that accident, Lucy and him lived together, just the 2 of them. Her father has always been the best father she could ever wish for and he was like a friend to her. Also the only friend she ever had, because Lucy was a typical outsider at her highschool. She rather was alone, dreaming about what the weather would be like out of this town. She never understood the way their classmates thought, they were always busy with all the 'romantic' and useless teenagestuff, but never with their future. Lucy had already a lifegoal and that was becoming a marine-biologist, just like her mother. Lucy loved adventure, and animals. So yeah, the people at school weren't really her thing and she only went to school because it was an obligation. She hated it there.

But here, right now, standing behind the steeringwheel of the Wally, she felt the happiest and most free person in the world. She looked at the white cliffs of Dover, and saw the sun go down after an abandoned landscape. On the right she saw the open sea, full of possibilities to go anywhere she wanted. But tomorrow school would start again, and she would jump right out of this marvelous weekend, back into normal life.

Her father came outside with a board of selfmade pasta. "It's still 5 miles to go, so I thought it would be the best to eat right now." Wally was carried along by the waves and  the wind pushed the boat forward.

Unfortunately, the harbour kept coming closer.
Everytime a day like this had to end, Lucy comforted herself with the thought of the promise she and her father made. That they would sail around the world together and escape from the annoying, boring world.
