Lucy and Thomas arrived at her house. "So this is where you live? What a nice place." Thomas said and tried to ignore the extremely messy garden. "Don't mind the garden. My dad is a sailor you know, always on the water when he's got the time." Lucy was thinking about the last time her dad was working in the garden but she couldn't bring it up.
There fell a silence.
Lucy and Thomas made eye-contact and both laughed shyly to eachother.
"Well, I better be going inside, my dad's probably waiting for me." Lucy said.
"Oh yeah, ofcourse. Well, see you tomorrow then?"
"See you tomorrow."Thomas once more looked her deep into the eyes and walked away. There was something about this girl that gave him a warm feeling. He barely even knew her, but he felt comfortable around her or something.
Lucy had a great blush on her face when she walked through the door. Then she saw her dad waiting for her at the kitchentable.
"Lucy, I want to talk to you about something important." Lucy looked at her father sheepishly. "What?""Sit down." Her dad began to talk. "You know that I've been working much last years, to keep this household running." Lucy nodded. She knew as no other what it felt like to be home alone most times of the week. He continued."Thanks to that, I have saved a big amount of money. And you know what we promised to eachother? Well, you're almost graduated, this is your last year!" If we start now, we can prepare Wally well enough to go next summer. You'll take a gap year between highschool and college and we will have plenty of time." Lucy stared at her father in shock. Her dad looked insecure. "So... what do you think?"
Lucy flew in her fathers arms and cried. "Dad! That's awesome!! I've longed for this moment all my life!" Her dad laughed and then became more serious. "You sure you have the time to help me with preparing the boat? It has to get out of the water first, to check the bottom and we have to do much repairs." Lucy laughed. "Well ofcourse I do! I'll make time!"
Lucy couldn't be happier that evening. Also she thought about having to leave Thomas, but she didn't care very much because he still was that boy who had a relationship with Hannah, and she barely even knew this guy. And, she and her dad would leave over a year. Maybe Thomas would be long gone out of Dover and out of Lucy's life.
If Lucy only knew what was about to happen.....
