Lucy turned red when Thomas's eyes met hers. He looked more hot than ever, with his salty, messy hair and bright-blue eyes.
"Hi, nice meeting ya" he said, looking more at Lucy than her father. "Eh.. hi." Lucy said shy, but no one heard it because her father talked her over. "Hi nice to meet you too! Do you also go to Lucy's school by any chance?" Thomas started to laugh. "Yeah... I think we've met before." He said with teasing eyes. Lucy felt extremely awkward but smiled.
"Would you guys like to have some
tea with us?" Lucy wanted to slap her dad and run away. But still she stood silent next to him. Why did he always had to do this. Sometimes Lucy was really tired of her extremely extroverted father. And there they sat, Thomas in the exact opposite of Lucy and the parents next to them, chatting busily. Lucy tried to avoid eyecontact as much as possible, and even the oh so social Thomas was a bit uncomfortable. So he just started to talk along with the parents. "So, where are you guys from? Did you just buy this boat?" Lucy's father asked. "Actually we came here all the way from Germany. We live on this boat (Thomas looked at his dad really shocked) and we came here because we've always wanted to live in England. Our family also lives here you know." Thomas's dad said, getting a relieved look back from Thomas. Lucy looked at them with a thoughtful look on her face. What was that.....
"So I suppose you guys are first going to check out Dover, before you go back at sea again." Lucy's father continued, not noticing anything. "Well actually, we like to go sailing as much as possible, so we were just about to go in a few hours. The tide is turning at 1 pm, perfect for a little trip to Ramsgate." Thomas's mother said."What a surprise! We were about to went that way too!" This time Thomas eyes looked surprised and worried at the same time, and Lucy looked like she could faint at any moment.
Which was actually true.
Finally the neighbours went off and started to prepair for the trip. So did Lucy's father, till he noticed Lucy wasn't looking well. "Are you allright? You seem pale." He said worried. " No I don't think I am, I feel dizzy and nausious, I think it is because of the warmth." Lucy lied.
"You know what, we're not leaving till you feel better. Ofcourse I'm not gonna do everything alone.
So: Today is our chilling day." He took a cushion and sat down.Lucy was relieved but felt like a coward at the same time. Also she was mad that Thomas ruïned her little trip with her father. Or did she ruïned it herself, with her awkwardness? Lucy realized she had always dreamed of a sailor-boy who had a boat. But NO! She would never like this irritating, too confident with himself-boy. Why did he had to come to Dover anyway? She felt guilty for her dad, but forgot about it when they went for a little swim and had an amazing afternoon.
Thomas looked back at the harbour, wich almost disappeared behind the horizon. He found himself a little bit disappointed, that 'Lucy' (So that was her name, he didn't know before because she had never introduced herself) wouldn't come with them. She seemed lika a nice girl. Also he worried that his status would drop (again) if anyone would find out he lived on a boat. He also still didn't know how to keep hiding it from his girl Hannah. Last week she already wanted to 'chill' at his place.
But most important, absolutely no one should know the reason why he moved here at all...
