Prologue

Blue trudged through the snow, carrying bags of groceries down the street, occasionally shaking of the specks of snow that gathered on top of her beanie, due to the incessant early December snowfall.
Sienna had chased her out of the house early in the morning, even when it was technically their day off, to buy a heck ton of groceries for reasons that Blue could not comprehend.
However, she knew that her best friend was a huge fan of the Holidays, and it was probably her way of gearing up for the upcoming festivities that did not seem to lose their appeal even when the staff in Edenbrook were being worked to the bones to treat as many patients as they could before its inevitable closure.
Juggling the heavy bags in one hand, Blue fished out her keys from the pocket of her sweatpants, before unlocking the door to her shared apartment.
"Si, I could use a little help in here--Woah!" Blue cut herself off the moment she stepped into the apartment. The sweet, cedar fragrance of the Christmas tree which was situated at the corner of the living room, wafted across the whole space. Red flashes of tinsels adorned the perimeters of the archways in slight canopies and five red Christmas stockings were hanging by the window grill, one for each roommate. The cushion covers were all changed into the same festive ones they had bought for the house the year before, and the carpets were changed to thick white ones. "Did Santa pay a visit?"
"I don't know about Santa, but Sienna Trinh definitely did." Jackie said, coming out of her room, all ready for work, nose crinkling as she took in the newly added decorations. "I've got to cover for Gary in the E.R. shift today, he's going back to Chicago for a little to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family." she told them.
"Have fun." Sienna waved as Jackie left for work. It was supposed to be the three of them with the day off, as they were going to work the night shift, but now there were only two of them left. "Well now that it's just us, could you please help me take the box from the top shelf of the storage room. We need to spice up our tree." Sienna turned to Blue.
Blue sighed, putting away the groceries in the kitchen. "Do we really need to go all out again this year? I mean we're barely going to be home with work making it tight."
"Don't be such a gringe." Sienna tapped Blue's butt playfully. "You had an excuse last year to be moody with the whole push and pull you and Dr. Ramsey had going on. You two are in a better place now aren't you?"
"I mean...yeah." Blue shrugged, helping Sienna to take down the box of ornaments from the storage room, before shifting into the living room where their bare Christmas tree stood, waiting to be decorated. "It's not about being moody, I'm just...I don't know..." she hesitated.
"You don't like the holidays?" Sienna asked a little concerned as she tore of the tape from the box.
Blue shook her head. "No, I love them. Well, loved them." she admitted. "Christmas has always carried the best moments I have ever shared with my brother when we were younger. There was never one Christmas we had ever not celebrated together in those first 14 years of my life."
"Oh, Blue..." Sienna let out, as she reached forward to wrap her friend into a warm hug.
"After he left...It just did not feel like a celebration anymore." Blue continued as they pulled away, and sat on the floor. "My parents always tried to keep our family traditions going every year, but even they were very affected as it was Beaux's favourite time of the year. He was the one always lighting up the entire season with his excitement. Ever since then, I don't really get the mood for Christmas much, even though I love it."
Sienna nodded with understanding, as she pulled out, a smaller box of red ornaments and blue ornaments. "Blue or Red?" she asked her.
Blue tilted her head, pondering for a moment. Sure, she was not such a big of the season anymore, but she was definitely not going to ruin the joy for her friend.
"Red."
Sienna smiled at her answer before starting to decorate the tree with the red ornaments that came with all sorts of assorted designs. Soon, Blue followed suit, helping her friend out with the higher sections of the tree. "You know, now that I think about it, both you and Dr. Ramsey are going to be such gringes this whole season." Sienna chuckled.
"Hey, I'm not a gringe." Blue defended herself playfully. "I would at least join you in the festivities. That man would just scowl and say 'No'." she joked.
Sienna laughed at that, as she whipped out the gold star of David that was supposed to go onto the top of the tree. "Who knows, maybe both of you gringes would be able to bring out the holiday spirit in the both of you."
"I highly doubt that's possible." Blue replied with a chuckle. She watched as Sienna tried to tiptoe to get the star onto the tree, but as usual, she could not reach it. "Let me help you out with that."
With that, Blue bent down, gesturing for Sienna to climb onto her back so that she was piggy-backing her. She hoisted the smaller woman up, the added leverage of height giving Sienna more ability to place the star onto the top of the tree.
Blue backed up a little from the tree, still carrying Sienna as the two best friends admired their work on the glittering red Christmas tree and decorations all around the apartment which had become a home to all of them now.
Sienna rested her chin on top of Blue's head, still clinging onto her before speaking.
"You know what, I'm starting to get a good feeling that this year's holiday season is going to be amazing."

•○•○•○•○•○•○•○•Anddd we're finally back with the Rookie series again!🙌🏼☃️🥳
The holiday season has not only started for our OH gang, but also for our real life lil community as well!❤ So Happy Holidays to all of you, hope the season has started for you guys amazingly!❄☃️🎄
This prologue has set the overall mood for this mini Holiday short book that is set during the time jump from December to March in Rookie 2. I've always wanted to read about what happened during that time period in the original, and I always wanted to write it into Rookie 2 as well. But to keep the integrity of the original book's timeline, I went through with the time jump, but I will be covering what I would have liked to have happened for Huntsey in this book!🤗
As it's set from December to March, Christmas would not be the only holiday that is going to be featured, so do expect more exciting festivities as well!😁🤯
This prologue is set with our favourite and wholesome best-friend duo. Their sismance is always cute🥰, and we are also now privy to the fact that Blue loves Christmas, but ever since her brother passed on, she has not really had the heart to celebrate it😢. However, with our boi Ethan, Edenbrook's resident grinch giraffe🦒, in the picture this year, would Huntsey be able to enjoy an amazing holiday like Sienna said, or would both of their seeming hostility towards the season put an edge to their fun?🤔🤭
Once again, this is a mini (supplementary) book, so the chapters will be a lot shorter than the ones in the usual main Rookie books.
Have a great holiday ahead, and I hope the upcoming chapters would accompany you guys in this season along the way as well🤗🥰🎄☃️ Stay safe, healthy and happy always!❤
