The second Tommy's head disappeared in the water, Tubbo let go of Michael's hand and ran towards the place where Tommy had been standing a couple of seconds ago.
He knew he was screaming. He knew tears were falling down his cheeks.
Tubbo didn't care.
His clothes were soaking wet.
Tubbo didn't care.
He was freezing.
But Tubbo didn't care.
Not if his best friend, his brother, was drowning. At the moment he only cared for Tommy, his Tommy. Tommy who always made him laugh, who was always ready to sacrifice one of his canon lifes for Tubbo.
He hated the water. It made him so slow.
So fucking slow.
He arrived at the place where Tommy had been standing and tried to find him.
Where was he?
The current had probably pulled him further away. Tubbo searched and searched until he finally saw him. In the corner of his eye he spotted a shirt of white and red. A shirt he would recognise anywhere.
As fast as the water would let him, he ran.
Ran towards Tommy.
Ran towards his best friend.
And suddenly Tubbo was standing next to him. He wrapped his arms around Tommy's chest and dragged him towards the shore. Tubbo made sure his friend's head was above the water because maybe he was still alive.
Maybe Tommy hadn't left him yet.
Finally Tubbo reached the dry sand and carefully laid Tommy down on it.
Oh Tommy
Tubbo's face was wet but he didn't know whether it was because of his tears or because of the seawater. He grabbed Tommy's wrist, desperate for a pulse or any sign that he was still alive.
Nothing
If Tommy was still alive, Tubbo would've yelled at him for leaving.
For leaving so soon.
But Tubbo understood why he'd done it and he wished he'd done more to help him. He wished he noticed sooner.
Ranboo and Michael were somewhere behind him. Tubbo sensed their presence. A presence that had felt so comforting but now, Tubbo felt like he didn't deserve it. Tommy was supposed to be here. How could he be happy with a family where Tommy wasn't even a part of?
A hand on Tubbo's shoulder made him flinch. He turned around and saw Ranboo. Everything was blurry so he couldn't really see, but he saw the burns on Ranboo's cheeks that had formed because of the tears that were rapidly falling down.
Tubbo hadn't noticed he was shaking, not knowing if it was because of the cold or something else.
He tried to find Ranboo's eyes and when he did, he shook his head. Ranboo probably knew Tommy was gone, but Tubbo just wanted to make sure.
Gone
It was real this time. It was actually real this time.
Tubbo let that sink in and decided he hated it.
He took deep breaths, trying to make his sight clear again. With the comforting hand still on his shoulder, Tubbo finally found the courage to look at Tommy properly.
He looked so at peace.
If Tubbo didn't know better, he would've thought he was asleep.
But Tubbo did know better.
"Why is uncle Tommy sleeping?"
Oh god
Michael
How were they supposed to tell him?
Michael walked up to Tommy and shook his shoulders.
"Wake up uncle Tommy, I wanna play."
Ranboo quickly walked over to him and dragged him away and finally Tubbo let it out.
All the sobs he had held in, came out at the same time. He heard Ranboo trying to explain it. Trying to explain it in a way a little kid would understand. Ranboo looked close to breaking down himself, but he still managed to explain it a little.
Tubbo lifted Tommy's head and held him close to his chest. Hugging him so tightly and never wanting to let go.
He knew one day he would have to, but now in that moment it was just Tubbo and Tommy.
Like it had been since the beginning.
A lot had changed since the beginning, but Tubbo thought that their friendship had stayed the same. Yeah, they had their ups and downs, but in the end they were still friends.
Best friends
brothers
But Tubbo began to doubt that. Had Tommy felt that way? Maybe he thought he was getting replaced by Ranboo. Was he getting replaced by Ranboo?
He looked down at Tommy and realised it didn't matter anymore.
Tommy was dead.
It really had been Tubbo and Tommy until the end.

I have no idea why this took me so long to write. Every time I began writing, I took a break after like 5 seconds. No idea where this story is going. I just wanted to write the first chapter. After that, I just kinda rolled with it. But I guess it's kinda working out.
