"All rise for King Nikos and Queen Theodosia." The announcer says to our guest in the throne room.
My father takes my mother's hand and turns them both into shadows, making them appear in front of a crowd of at least 50 as a grand entrance. People bowed and my parents sat, father on the left, mother on the right.
"The Future Shadow, crowned Prince Callan." my brother went into a dark corner of the room we were in, came out from the shaded place behind his throne on a lower level beside my father and sat down.
"And the Second Shadow, Prince Reid" I covered myself in mist shaped shadows and travel through the same dark space my brother went in. Once seated beside my mother, I made the shadows fall off me so it looked like I was made from them."
The throne room was one of the best built rooms in the castle. The walls and pillars were constructed out of special-made, black and tan marble. Light blue silk curtains draped across the ceiling, pillars, floor length windows and the dais that my family sat on. Above the crowd was a huge silver chandelier. Even though we had electric lights in the room, the baby blue and black candles were still lit.
The crowd lightly applauded and my father cleared his throat. He welcomed the guest and said a small speech about the importance of the 4th moon and the beauty of it's arrival.
I didn't really listen to the speech. Instead I looked for the head of honey blonde hair I was dying to meet. I didn't really know whether it was the hype or the pure curiosity but my body itches with the need to put a face to her name.
"We welcome the Moon of Beauty and Soul. Let the party begin "
Most of guests in the throne room moved to our enourmous dining room that already had about 100 people in it. Many stood and conversed. My family made our rounds, talking to most of our guests as they started taking their seats.
"That trick was so cool my lord. I bet your girlfriend loves it." One duke's daughter says in our conversation, hinting that she wanted a confirmation of my singleness.
"So what is it that you do anyway. I heard you just lounge around reading all day. If that was the case, then I could be a prince." Another guest-male-starts a conversation.
"When are you gonna get a wife and have mini shadows huh?" My mother's great aunt this time
"You really need to buckle down, son. Or you ain't never gonna achieve nothing great." Yeah, thanks for the tip.
"You know, your father had set up his first peace treaty when he was your age. I thought you would've at least conquered a city by now. Like you brother." This is gonna be a long night.
When most of them were seated, my family decided to follow suit. My parents, of course, were at the head table but, because my mother wanted the ball to be a little less formal, my brother and I got to sit amongst the guest. Callan sat at a table nearest to my parents, surrounded by his friends. I chose one of the u-shaped booths that were built in the back of the room.
