Hostage

When you are faced with a hostage situation, you have to act fast.

It's the knowing that every second you delay, the person that is being held against there will, could be killed.

Now I knew that this girl was alive, this man who took her wanted something, he wanted the  mayor to step down.

So the next logical step was to inform the mayor. As the primary in this case, I had the pleasure meet him.

"Mr mayor, I'm detective Riley Bishop, the primary on your daughters case.." I said, shaking his hand.

"You can call me John.." He sniffled, it was clear he was very upset, "What is being done to find my daughter?"

"Well, I received a call from the man who has your daughter, she's still alive, but he wants you to drop out of the race for re-election.." I explained, taking a seat across him.

"I will do that, if it means you will get me my daughter back!" He yelled, realizing how frustrated that made him, "I'm sorry.." He corrected.

"That's alright, you have the right to be frustrated. This type of suspect won't stop, once you drop out of the race, that won't be enough.." I explained, "He will want more, eventually not even caring and choosing to not return your daughter.."

"How do you know this?" He asked.

"He called me directly, he's brave and we believe he has nothing to lose. I believe he was a hired kidnapper, someone know knew your schedule.." I continued to explain.

"I chose those close to me, nobody would do that.." He tried to bargain.

"I have brought in three of your colleagues, those who know your schedule inside out and would even have the ability to pass that information on to a competitor.." I said, attempting to reason with this man.

"Nobody I know would do such a thing.." He laughed, hard to be laughing in a time like this.

"Everyone had a dark side.." I shrugged.

I felt a tad bit defeated by the mayors response. He was so happy to tell me that nobody he knew would betray him, so content.

Climbing into the car and driving home with that feeling wasn't good, not nice at all. I felt like there was someone that could put all of the pieces of this case together, I just don't know if that person is ready to speak.

I arrived back to the precent and was instantly swarmed by people, with files and theory's and statements. When I could take a moment to go unnoticed, I slipped into a supply closet to take a breather.

I did think I had gone unnoticed, until I hear a rhythmic knock one the door. I didn't want to let the culprit of the knocks in, knowing that the tears streaming down my face would prove to be embarrassing.

Although I had an idea of who it might be.

When I eventually felt sufficed that there were no clues that I was crying, I opened the door to see a brown haired boy with a sincere look on his face, giving me a sympathetic smile.

"Can I join you, in supply closet D?" He asked with a dorky pout, allowing me to let out a small chuckle and open the door for him.

Once he was inside, he looked around, giving me a smile, "Well I love what you've done with the place.."

"I've made it rather homie.." I smiled.

"Are you alright?" He asked, taking a more serious tone.

"I don't know, I don't think I am, I mean he called me Jake! The man who had this girl called me!" I panicked.

"We can get through this, we brought in the three people you asked for and they are ready for questioning. We can get through this.." He said in an attempt to comfort me, placing his hands on my shoulders.

"But why me? There are so many detectives and he chose me.." I questioned.

"Because you see things others don't, you notice the details that will solve the case. Holt chose you because you are a brilliant detective. Now your gonna march into that interrogation room and figure this out! Can I come with you, into the interrogation?" He asked.

"Fine, but I'm still mad at you.." I softly smiled before he opened the door for me, allowing us to step out and face what happened.

When looking for a mole, there were three people I knew would know the ins and outs of the mayors schedule. His assistant, his campaign manager and his representative. They knew where he would be, so they would be the ones to sell him out.

Jake and I took the campaign manager, Rosa took his representative and Terry took his assistant. If the man who had Sarah didn't get instructions or even ghosted, it would make him go crazy. Potentially even call again.

I let her sweat for a moment, Lisa Clarke, in charge of getting the mayor re-elected. She could stir for a moment longer.

Then we headed inside, pulled up a chair and the case file, ready to see what she had to say.

"So, Mrs. Clarke. I'm unsure if you are aware but Mayor Parkers daughter, Sarah, has been taken.." I said with sorrow, looking to see what her reaction might be.

"I um.. I heard. It's horrible news.." She sadly spoke, that's how she appeared anyway.

"It is indeed. I mean it's horrible that someone would do that.." I muttered, looking through the file, "You have access to the mayors busy schedule, don't you?" I asked.

"I do, it's apart of my job to.." She responded, inter linking her fingers and placing her arms on the table in a sign of interest.

"That person would also know where his daughter would be, is that correct?" I questioned.

"I know when she's at school, activity's, I know these things incase she has to make an appearance as part of the campaign.." She explained.

"Do you believe in his cause?" I asked, shuffling in the cool metal chair to lean into her.

"I don't follow?" She queried.

"Do you support the mayor's ideology and methods, or are you just in it for the good pay check?" I bluntly spoke.

"Well I um- of course I do. It's my job to.."

I'm not buying that for a second.

"Well then, you sit tight and my partner, detective Peralta, may come in with further questions.." I said, collecting the papers and leaving the interrogation room.

Jake was awaiting me from behind the double sided glass. Once I stepped beside him, he knew I had a theory.

"When I asked her if she believed in the cause she was frazzled. Everything she did was 'for her job'. Maybe she did this as revenge, according to others in the office the mayor isn't  a very nice man. So she ruins his life and leaves without a job and the boss she hates leaves without a daughter.." I explained.

"So then it wouldn't be the assistant, she would stick with him whether or not he loses the campaign.." Jake followed.

"Ms. Clarke was only interested in the job, she didn't show the much emotion about the girl being taken. We need to regroup with Rosa and inform Terry that the assistant is clean.." I said, leaving the women in the interrogation room as I knew she would be needed later.

In the meeting room, there was a debate on whether or not the assistant should be let go, maybe she knows something. She's was 22, sweet as a button, the chances of such a thing were highly unlikely.

Terry let her go, leaving the next debate who was most likely to do this. One was sharp, sophisticated, would most definitely be capable of doing such a thing as this. That was Lisa Clarke. Then there was a bold, articulated, educated women who was supposedly the punch line of the joke at work. That was Rachel Morgan.

Both women seemed perfectly capable of lashing out, there personality's aline with such a thing. Rosa said that Ms. Morgan was unaware of Sarah's kidnapping. So how did one person know, and another didn't? Both on the same level of being in the know, yet they should both have the same knowledge.

By knowing these things, it was clear that Lisa Clarke knew something, or many things, that she wasn't as innocent as she appeared to be.

Before confrontation could occur, the sick bastard called me again. I don't know what goes through some peoples heads.
