chapter four

NOVA HERRERA made her way into the kitchen to hear some sniffling. She stopped momentarily, peeking in slightly to see Natasha sitting in a chair and attempting to hold back tears.

"I would offer you candy but I don't got any on me," she said to make her presence known as she leaned her side onto a bookshelf. The redhead looked up and wiped her tears, mustering up a small smile at her.

"Hey," Natasha sniffled, looking up at the girl. "I was just... working."

Nova nodded, knowing not to push it as she went to sit in the chair opposite of the Avenger. "They always talked about how life was better during the Blip," she started and Natasha looked at her expectantly.

"Is it not?" she asked. The queen chuckled bitterly, her hand making it's way up to her lips. "I was barely holding my shit together. My whole family was blipped, half of my kingdom just gone. I had to just step in and take the throne and try to regain at least the slightest bit of balance for my people," Nova bit her nails.

"I mean I guess, there are the upsides," she shrugged. "People had jobs, communities came together to help each other back on their feet. The whole world came together, actually. But I lost so much, I just couldn't even look at the bright side."

Natasha looked at her with sad eyes, in a way relating to her pain. "My best friend, lost his family too. In the whole process, he ended up losing himself as well I guess," the redhead said to her.

"I was trying to find him, and we might have a lead but no one knows," she added. "And then there's the whole thing with Vision, we're trying to get him fixed and what not. It's all so hard right now."

"It is," Nova nodded. "I can't say it'll get easier, or better, because I don't know that. But what I do know is that, we'll survive this. We all will. We'll make it out of this together."

Natasha chuckled, "you sound so confident."

"Well I gotta make myself believe it too right?" Nova shrugged and the girls burst into small laughter. "You said you're trying to get Vision fixed, where?" she asked again.

"I think they sent him to Wakanda?" Natasha responded. "Maybe I could help?" Nova suggested.

"WILL THIS work?" Wanda asked as their small group gathered in the compound.

Nova sighed, "no promises. But we can try." She nodded at the Avengers around her, Natasha, Wanda, Bucky and Steve who had agreed to follow her to Ivazar to fix Vision after the stone was crushed out of his head. They simultaneously tapped onto the small rectangular glass she gave them, and when they opened their eyes the sight before them was simply breathtaking.

"This," Steve started, "is where you live?" She smiled softly, nodding. "Welcome to my home."

Ivazar was still the same, location wise, but she knew that half of them were gone. But something had changed. As they approached the palace, she froze at the sight of her parents talking with the guards.

"Mami? Papi?" she called out and the King and Queen spun on their heel in an instance. Relief washed over their faces as they ran to their daughter.

"Nova," Queen Irena cupped her face with a loving smile. Nova felt her eyes water as she looked at the woman she had been mourning for over the past five years. "We thought you were dead, you turned to dust," her mother hugged her tightly.

"So did you—" Nova stuttered slightly before slowly pulling back, but keeping her hands on her mother. "Never mind that. I have a lot to tell you but first I need your help," she quickly told both her parents who had also looked at the heroes behind her.

"Of course," King Guzman nodded at them all. "Whatever you need, come," he invited them in as Nova began to give her a summary of what happened in the current timeline they were in.

Mainly about her coming from the future of another timeline, and how they needed to restore Vision without the Mind stone. His body was in a cradle that the guards had taken to the palace lab.

"Ezra?" Nova looked around for her brother. "He... disappeared, chiquita," Guzman told his daughter sadly as the girl only looked to him with sadness swimming in her eyes.

But she knew he was safe in the other timeline. That's what she was holding onto.

THEY WERE gathered in the lab as one of the doctors began figuring things out. Wanda was stood by the table where Vision's body laid, everyone else surrounding them.

"It'll work," Nova turned to the doctor, "right?"

"Your Majesty, we'll try our best," the doctor nodded at her. She sighed inwardly, but she couldn't blame them. This wasn't something you'd do everyday.

Wanda stepped towards her, gesturing to a private corner of the room to which Nova complied. "Thank you, for doing this," the redhead said, reaching out and giving the brunette's arm a gentle squeeze.

"It's the least I could do. I know how it feels, losing people in your life... especially those that mean the most," Nova said as her voice wavered towards the end.

Wanda tilted her head in concern and empathy. "For what it's worth, you're a great person Nova. I don't know you well but..." she trailed off, unsure of what else to say. "I guess we'll have to change that?" Nova suggested, raising an eyebrow as her lips tugged upwards.

"Girls' day?" Wanda grinned and the girl nodded enthusiastically. "We'll take Nat too," Nova said and the redhead quickly agreed.

"Once this is all over, maybe we'll head to Hawaii or something," the redhead continued and Nova chuckled as they slowly began to gather back with the group. "That could be arranged."

The others decided to take the time to roam the palace, while Wanda stayed in the lab as they worked to fix her lover.

should i like end this book right after the endgame or should i maybe make extra chapters before nova heads back to the future?
