I was informed that today we'd be having class somewhere different. Every week, twice a week, we go to this beautiful building just behind the school in the forest. When we got there, we'd meet our teacher. My entire senior class, which didn't happen to be any more than 80 kids, would take the day to learn life skills. Things like how to pay bills and change the tire of a car or fix something.. Well, maybe not the tire thing, they don't really drive here.. But it was a class I had wished for when I was in school before.

Today, our life skill was.. giving birth.

"Now, when a woman gets pregnant she goes through a series of-.." and I zoned out. I got to thinking about what an animal pregnancy would be like. I'm a bug though.. I only paid attention to the pictures. It looked like every woman gives birth the same way like we used to. No eggs or cocoons or- I don't know, weird stuff. Just the same ole.

"How can you even watch this?.." This girl I had never met was sitting next to me in the back. She's got big ears sticking up out of her head but I can't figure out what animal she is. Those ears almost look.. clipped?

"Uh.. Well I kinda thought different people gave birth different ways.. I thought the duck lady's laid eggs.." I explained and was looking at the nasty photos with a tilted head and confused look.

"Pfft-!.." she almost burst out laughing, "What'd you think the butterflies did? Laid eggs on a leaf?" She asked carelessly and seemed so amused.

"Please don't ever put that thought in my head again.." I sighed and put my hand over my eyes.

"Hey, you started it" she hummed a laugh, "I'm June, it's nice to meet you, butterfly" she smiled and held out her hand.

"It's Ophilia, but it's nice to meet you too" I gave her a crooked smile as I shook her hand.

"How much longer do you think we have to watch vaginas being ripped open for?" She asked as she relaxed and put her head in her hand.

"Till one of us kills ourselves I'm sure" I grinned and put my left arm on the table, making my sleeve come up as I laid my head on it.

"Whoa, what happened to your hand?" She asked quickly and pointed out my stubby wrist.

"That's what you're worried about? Not the wings?" I asked and rolled my eyes as I sat up again.

"I don't care as long as you don't hit my like you did with Raven" she grinned as she took my left arm and pulled up my sleeve to see the stump in this dark room.

"I can't promise anything" I smiled and felt all too excited that I might've made a friend. I hope I don't scare her away somehow..

"So how'd you lose it?" She asked but I actually don't have a straight answer.

"I think I was hit with a bus when I was little but I don't know for sure why it's gone. It just kinda happened" I shrugged and looked at my empty sleeve.

"Wow, really dramatic.." she mumbled sarcastically which made me giggle.

"You lose a hand overnight and tell me how it goes then" I grinned happily.

"What are you two talking about?" A girl in front of us asked. I've kinda been looking at her tail, it's a raccoon's tail.

"Her missing hand." June answered while I waved with a stubby arm.

"What?! No hand too?!" Her partner next to her asked. This other girl seemed to be a raccoon too.

It wasn't hard for word to spread that the big butterfly girl is also missing a hand that day. That made for an interesting next day at school.. June met up with me every once in a while. At lunch we even sat together! She had other friends but they left as soon as they saw me. I couldn't stop apologizing for that but she didn't care about them.
Anyway, while I walked the halls by her side, I frequently had people walking past me and trying to high-five me.

"What a dickhead.." I muttered to June as I watched this tall guy with dog ears walk past me trying to do a high-five but was laughing the whole time. He's trying to make fun of me. His face is so goofy though, how could I take offense?

"Oh, that's an old one stashed away in the history books" June hummed proudly as I looked at her in confusion.

"What? That's not old, is it? Ugh, what even are new aged insults?.." I asked and put my hand in my short hair.

"How about calling him a puppy? It's much more innocent and on top of that, watching their tails stop wagging always gives me a kick" June grinned happily and giggled.

"If someone called you a puppy, how would you take that?" I asked her purely out of curiosity.

"Uh, I'm am adorable puppy, aren't I? It's different for boys and girls.. You really should get out there more.." She sighed as we walked.

I couldn't help my laugh,"Yeah, maybe I should."

Last period finally came. I hadn't hit anyone with my wings since coach taught me where my muscles are. Although in her class, I don't have to keep them together. I let them spread and stretch.

"Do your wings keep getting bigger or is this room getting smaller?" Ryu asked me with a bored expression.

"Could be the wings," I answered as I leaned against the wall with a smile.

"You better hope not," he scuffed and smirked, "Last butterfly that tried to show off got their wings ripped apart by the Hunters," he threatened to scare me.

"Would've been nice a few days ago. I'm used to it now" I answered and didn't act bothered.

"Really?.. I know someone who'd love to take your pretty wings.." he said before he suddenly grabbed my wing closest to him. It was my instinct that kicked in and told me to flight. I don't have much of a flight instinct, never did. That must be why I died.

It barely took a second for me to whip around my fist and try to punch him square in the face. He let go of my wing to grab my fist. It was the loud sound of him catching my fist that got people's attention.

"Don't touch me again." I told him and was being completely serious. The room is dead silent. I watched his face quickly change. His lazy eyes stayed the same but he grew a smirk.

"Fine, I won't." He answered as I took back my fist.

"Tch, a little butterfly picking a fight with the dragon of the school?.."

"Isn't she the tough one.."

"Must think she's a bit shot.."

The amount of whispers I heard around me were scary. It was now I realized what I had really done. Ryu won't touch me like he said, he has other people who will.

"That's enough, class" coach called and got their attention back. Across the classroom is June. She watched the whole fight.. and after school, she let me know just how truly fucked I am.

"Where do I even begin?" She asked with this big scary smile as she walked with me home. "First they'll beat you then rip off your wings and beat you with said wings then maybe if you're lucky they'll kill you early!" She ranted which wasn't helping even in the slightest.

"You probably shouldn't be next to me if I'm going to die soon" I rolled my eyes at her words I knew were probably true.

"What are you talking about? We clipped in 2 days ago, we're stuck now. You're the big bad butterfly and I'm a kickass puppy. I'll be fine, I'm just worried about you. You can't exactly hide your wings" she explained to me. Even if that scares me, I still smiled. She's not going to leave my side, that's a relief.

"Maybe they'll give me the pleasure of dying in my sleep?" I asked grinning..

She was being serious till I asked that. "Pfft-.. You really don't care, do you?" She asked.

"What do I have to live for? A shitty job? Maybe to lay eggs on a leaf one day?" I smirked and looked over to her, making her laugh harder than before. She's not the type of person that laughs I think. She's a bit more on the emo side for that but I manage to get her going somehow.

"You're something, Ophelia" she shook her head with a smile and bumped my arm.

"Something dead soon" I smiled back and bumped her.
