Alex's POV
I say "remind me why were moving again?" Mom says "I got a better paying job" and I say "are we living near a beach?" She says "on the beach cause I can afford that now" and I say "point taken" as we drive our new car to our new house. She says "what do you think?" We get there and I say "it's really nice" and she says "I really like it too." It has a giant wrap around porch and it reminds me of Hawaii. It seems like one of the houses along the beach that a middle aged woman would offer food out of to kinds on weekends back home. I really didn't want to leave but I'm wiling to try something new. Its such a big culture and growing up in it was so much fun, you would never be bored. There it always felt like had something to do. People would be drinking mai tais and getting their tans darker than their friends or surfing, that's what it was like in the beach part, which was most of the island and people would be blasting traditional Hawaiian dance music all weekend with a dance floor set up somewhere along the beach. That was normally my weekend plans, find people to dance with and tell me stories till I got heat exhaustion or my legs felt like jello. Stared from Friday around sunset till early Monday morning. People would bring home cooked native food mainly the ladies that loved to dance in their time but cant anymore and someone would be making drinks and we'd just have fun. I say "mom, it's going to be so boring here" and she says "maybe bring home traditions here or throw a party or something" knowing I'd go dancing till I couldn't move every weekend. I say "I'm gonna have to see what everyone does around here, it's not as hot here though" and mom says "that is true" smiling. I go inside and I say "oooo, it's nice here, where's my room?" Mom says "upstairs" and I go upstairs and its all one room and I say "this is all my room?" She says "yeah, you like it?" I say "yeah, I do, thanks, mom!" She says "you're welcome!" I move my stuff into my room throughout the day and I get everything done by around six o' clock and as I move the last box in there's guys and a girl just hanging out in the middle of the road and throwing a football up and down the street. Mom quietly says "white American boys" chuckling and I say "but they're cute" quietly and mom says "that's true" as I watch them and look at their six packs. I bite my lip as I watch them toss the ball until about an hour after the street lights turn on then I go upstairs to my room, take my clothes off and I lay in bed then going to sleep a few minutes later.
The next day
I wake up saying "ugh, I don't want to" rolling over then I get up saying "ooo, it looks hot outside" biting my lip and I shower and get dressed saying "ooo, I look cute" and I tie my shirt so my stomach is showing with my short cropped top. I put strappy sandals on and I fix my hair and I say "I look damn good" biting my lip and I go downstairs and mom says "make sure you don't get dress coded, it is a heat wave here for the next few days but there's still a dress code" and I say "I know, I miss the no dress code." She says "it was always too hot to have one" and I say "true" smiling and I go to school and everyone just seems to hang out in the parking lot and I lean against the wall and open my camera on my phone and put on heavy duty mascara. I mumble "this heat is gonna mess all the pretty girls up if they aren't wearing their expensive stuff, you could probably cook an egg on the godamn pavement" biting my lip. A few guys come up to me and the hottest one says "what's someone pretty like you doing in a place like this?" I say "the government loves to have it way with all of us, pretty boy" resting my hands on his cheeks and his friends chuckle cause this guy wasn't expecting me to bite back. His friends start to walk away and one of them say "I think you've got this, big boy" and I smile, letting my hands go to my sides and he says "government?" I say "everyone has to go to school, requirement by the government, pretty boy" as I do last minute eyeliner. He says "yeah, you're new, where you from?" I say "Hawaii" and he says "you're kidding?" I say "nope, you can't get a good tan anywhere else other than here maybe if you're feeling lucky" and he says "you're probably right" staring into my eyes curiously and I just stare right back. I say "what do you do around here?" He says "other than school, sports, occasionally go to the beach, what did you do back home?" I say "after school, you'd sit in the air conditioning or you'd go out and find people to tell you stories or old people would offer you food till Friday after school. Then Friday after school, you'd get a short dress on and go down to the beach and find people to dance with all weekend till you couldn't move, just anyone, people would be making drinks, bringing food, the people that have had generations of family down there love to party" chuckling. He just listened and watched intently and he smiles saying "that sounds really cool, I bet you'd throw a good party" and I say "that's what my mom tells me" chuckling and he says "well, I don't think she's wrong" biting his lip and he walks away, writing something in a mini notebook from his back pocket. He goes to talk to a group of girls and guys, he seems popular but seems to have a personality and he seems funny, he just said something and made everyone laugh, he's really cute.
