Come a Little Closer- Cage the Elephant
"Time shakes, found you at the water. At first you were my father, now I love you like a brother. Earthquakes shake the dust behind you. This world at times will blind you. Still I know I'll see you there. Come a little closer, then you'll see. Come on, come on, come on. Things aren't always what they seem to be. Come on, come on, come on. Do you understand the things you been seein'. Come on, come on, come on. Do you understand the things that you've been dreaming. Come a little closer, then you'll see."

Jake POV
How could this be? Who even is she?" Dawn's voice tries to pierce through my skull, but I'm afraid to explode. THE PAST FEW DAYS, all I've done is cry, yell, and put my hands on the nearest asshole. In this case, it would be my brother once again.
"Well, isn't it obvious," Terry scoffs, "it's you." He points to Dawn, her eyes glaze over, and she almost tumbles back on the couch. I catch her waist, shooting a death stare at Terry.
"He's lying; it's not funny, Terry," I grumble. Dawn takes a breath in.
"Goodness," Dawn breathes, "I was going to say we look nothing alike, and then I was going to throw up everywhere." She sighs into my neck for warmth, and I revel at her additional attachments. I shouldn't be surprised by it, but my mind tends to wander when loads of pressure are weighed across my chest. With each sigh that passes her lips, another pound lifts.
I rub her side, leaning for more physical and emotional support. "We don't know who she is. All it says in the letter is our mother put them under adoption. I have no idea if it's a boy or a girl, or whatever. I just—"
"Jake, sh, relax. One step at a time." Dawn sits me down. I'm surprised Alice has yet to say much.
"Why so quiet, cousin?" Terry asks, reading my mind.
Her eyes glance over the kitchen floor tiles before reaching eyesight with the gawking set of the rest of us. "I'm your sister."
Dawn POV
Terry and Jake both suck in a breath, and it appears they are both going to faint, this is until Alice begins her fits of laughter. "A joke! My gosh, it can't be that obvious. You guys are gullible as can be. Next, you're going to start to think Reese is the long-lost sibling."
Terry collapses on the loveseat couch, contemplating life before realizing that Reese is 5 shades darker than all of us. What an idiot.
"Wait, why are you all assuming it's a girl?" Reese voices my thoughts.
"Because I can't handle a younger version of me and Terry roaming the halls of high school, let alone someone that looks similar to either. My uncle is the twin of my father, the only way for us not to notice if someone is related to us closely is if they were a girl. That is... if they lived in the state, let alone the city." Jake begins tapping his boot.
I begin to realize he's shifting in his pants, barely holding it together in front of everyone else, as everyone clammers for conspiracy theories. Still, I know he needs a moment alone away from prying eyes to show his genuine emotions. Sure he's displaying shock and curiosity, but I know Jake's also hurt and angry. Impartial of how Terry went about this revelation at a wedding in front of friends and family. Once an orphan, now born a possible bastard. What a selfish way to discover. Not to mention, his uncle was the mistress of his mother. I could never forgive Terry if I were his sibling. That's the difference between Jake and me. He won't hold a grudge; he will reason why Terry did what he did. Regardless if it was damnation of his name, scorned across the pavements of a dining room floor.
