“Bree,  can you promise me something?” my brother said as he put the car in park.

“what?” I questioned him.

“you wont be such a dork. I mean try and be popular .” He looked over at me. I just laughed.

“Brax, have you met me? Im the girl who sits in the back of the room by herself” I told him.

“im just trying to help” he said. Putting his lanyard around his neck.

“Ill be fine.” I said

“whatever you say” he rolled his eyes at me getting out of the car. I grabbed my backpack from the backseat and got out of the car. It was my first day of my freshman year at Brinkley highschool.   My brother Braxton  is a senior and quite a popular one at that. Star athlete and was supposedly ‘incredibly cute’ as my friends have told me. Which was kind of weird. Considering him  and I looked a lot alike. We both and curly hair. But my was more of waves considering I actually did something to it than air drying it. We also both had weird greenish-brown eyes.

I walked across the student parking lot and up the stairs to the main door.  A group of 3 girls extremely overdressed for school, wearing miniskirts and tight shirts that made their boobs pop out, were eyeing me as I walked by. I shook it off and continued through the door and down the hallway to the locker I was assigned. I put in my combination as I felt hands cover my eyes.

“guess who?!” I heard the person say. I pulled the hands off and turned around to find my best friend.

“DEVIN!” I screamed as I hugged him. Devin and I have been friends since forever. We were actually born one day apart. Him, of course being a day older, he always makes fun of me for being younger. Our Parents met in the hospital and stayed friends.

“BREE!” he screamed hugging me back.  “ive missed you” he pulled away from the hug smiling.

I shoved him “I missed you too!” Devin was insanely good looking blonde, flippy hair with blue eyes. All the girls chased after him. But he doesn’t ever pay attention to that. He doesn’t care about popularity which was good, because he would drop me in an instant if he did.

“I got to go see some other people, I will see you later!” he said walking away. I continued fiddling around in my locker. I went to my morning classes keeping to myself. Until lunch.

I walked in the door and saw my friend Morgan sitting by herself at the table in the corner. Morgan was a straight A student. She had short brown hair and hazel eyes. She wore glasses but she could pull them off. She was little on the heavier side and she has been forever. Morgan and I have been friends since the beginning of middle school. It was kind of like neither of us had anyone else to be friends with so we became friends. I walked over to her and sat down. I wasnt hungry and she was reading her book. Being friends with her wasn’t always but atleast someone was there.

I looked across the cafeteria overwhelmed by the amount of students. I saw Brax goofing around with his friends, bunch of faces I didn’t know, and I saw the girls from earlier walk by clicking their high heals. “those are the Barbies” Morgan said

“they call themselves the barbies?” I chuckled. Who would refer to themselves as a Barbie.

Morgan closed her book and set it to the side. “my sister told me about them, apparently the barbies have been a thing here for years and years,  there’s one in each grade. Currently, Alice is the leader. She is the senior. Stella is the junior and Claire is the sophomore.  Each new year when the senior graduates. They pick two freshmen to compete to be in the barbies.”

“what do you mean compete?” I interrupted her.

“I don’t know. The senior picks the task.” She said opening her book back up “its quite stupid and pathetic, I mean who would want to be one of them?” she started reading again. I looked across the café at the Barbies.  Who would want to be one of them? I mean to be gorgeous, in the in crowd, have people envy you, parties, and boys. Who would want that? The normal Bree wouldn’t, but I kept going back to what Brax said this morning. He was right. If I want to have fun in high school. I need to be in the barbies.
