The next day at lunch, I saw Alice sitting with Stella and Claire. I walked over a sat down at their table.
“can we help you?” the one asked. Alice pushed her.
“this is Bree, one of the freshman I picked.” Alice said the girl rolled her eyes “ Ignore Claire” Claire was the sophomore. She had blue eyes and red straight hair. Surprisingly she was insanely gorgeous. “oh, and Bree, this is stella.” She said gesturing to the other girl. Stella had her black hair in tight curls and she had brown eyes with flecks of gold and green. All of the barbies were so pretty. So fashionable. How could a plain Jane like me fit in with them?
“so,” alice continued. “did you think about my offer?”
“uhm. Yeah I did.” I said biting my lip trying not to make eye contact.
“and?”Claire said “we don’t have all day, is it a yes or no?”
“it’s a yes.” I said. Instantly regretting it. But I thought about brax and Nate. And how id spend all of highschool in the corner with Morgan if I didn’t.
“good.” Alice said smiling
“youre perfect for it!” stella chimed in.
“really?” I said.
“well, I mean you do need a little work” Claire said with attitude. Alice pushed her.
“Claire, be nice!” alice yelled “we will take care of everything” she grabbed my phone out of my hand and punched in a number. “here,” she handed it back “I put my number in and stellas and claires. Call me later, around 8 or so, and ill give you further explanation on the competition.”
“okay?” I said as they got up to leave.
“we gotta run dear, but call me okay?” Alice said. And with that they were gone I got up and walked over to sit down with Morgan who was reading another book than she was the day before.
“why were you talking to them?” she said almost in disgust.
“no reason.” I said avoiding the question.
“did they ask you to be one of them?” She said. Not letting it go.
“really morgan, it was nothing. Forget it okay?” I said standing up “I got to go, im supposed to meet up with Devin” and I walked away without giving her a second to respond. I walked out of the café and down the hall to his locker where he was standing. He looked up and smiled at me.
“hey, ella!” he giggled as I rolled my eyes. My actual name was breella and growing up that’s what everyone called me. As I reached middle school I realized how extremely childish and how it made me sound like a kid so I made people refer to me as Bree instead. Everyone did, expect for Devin.
“hi,” I said sighing.
“geeze, whats wrong?” he asked.
“nothing.” I said to him. Nothing really was wrong. It was just one of those days.
“well whatever it is, im here.” He said pulling me in for a tight hug.
“thanks.” I smiled as the bell rang. Him and I went off to our classes.
Later that night after I got home and finished some homework I checked the clock as it was right around eight. I picked up my phone and scrolled through my almost pathetic amount of contacts to find Alice.
“hello?” I heard the uncertainty in her voice, its weird when a random number calls you. So it was understandable. “who is this?”
“its bree,” I said back
“OHHH bree, Hi darling,” she said “ listen we need you to meet us at the playground in 10 minutes”
“but my parents will never allow that” I said. Realizing how juvenile that sounded. I heard her laugh.
“sneak out then” alice demanded.
