For someone who has much positivity, Karma can beat the crub out of folks. I have never seen her fight with a person, but she came close once. She almost gave some guy a black eye. I tell you that she is the sister that I do not deserve. I wish that she lived with me. Then Karma can give each of my brothers a kick where the sun does not shine and a black eye.
I smiled just thinking about it. I would love that. I also would not feel guilty because it is what they deserve.
I leaned against the sinks as my best friend charged at the man. She was not afraid of him. Not one bit. There was no fear in her eyes. I stayed still and let her do her thing. I held onto the sinks as my breath caught in my throat. I watched as she punched his gut. The man flew back and slammed into the wall. He hunched over and rested his hands on his knees. He groaned and glanced up at us.
"Wow," he said. "I did not know that you women had it in you."
I squinted at him. Squinted at his face. This guy looked familiar to me. Where have I seen him? Then it hit me.
Karma rushed up to the man as if she were a rhino and pinned him to the wall. She wrapped her hands around his arms and pushed his arms against the wall. I took a step towards them. I was scared that he was too strong for her. Thank gosh that I was wrong. That creep could not break free no matter how hard he tried.
"Let me go!" he demanded.
"Not until you explain why a guy like you is in the girls' restroom," Karma answered. "Why are you in the girls' bathroom? And it had better not be because you desire to be a woman." She brought her face close to his. "You are a man if you were born a man. You are a lady if you were born a lady. That is it. God created two genders."
The man's face twisted in confusion. "The heck are you talking about? What sick world do you live in?"
My best friend must have realized her mistake because she said, "Oh, yes. We are not in the same time period. My bad."
"What?"
Their faces were so close that their noses touched. She clenched her teeth and tightened her grips on his arms and said, "Answer the question."
"What question is that?"
I could not let her harm him. I was able to get between them and ordered her to let him go. Her eyes widened. She was surprised by my statement.
"You want me to let him go? Why the crub do you want me to let him go?"
"I will explain. Just trust me."
Karma frowned as she loosened her grips and removed her hands. She crossed her arms. "I trust you, Carmen, but I will never trust this man." She glanced back up at him and shook a fist. "If I catch you hurting us or some other person in the bar...I will personally end you."
I gazed up at him too and whispered, "I would listen to her if I were you. You do not want to provoke her."
The man - whom I knew was Amos - held up his hands as if surrendering. "There is a good reason why I am in here. I did not mean to scare you girls. I was searching for someone."
"Who?"
He reached in the pocket of his pants and took out this photo of a young lady. It was a beautiful lady. Probably the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen. And I recognized her. The longer that I looked at the picture, the more excited that I became. I wanted to squeal and jump up and down and pump my fists in the air. It was my mom. He was holding a picture of my mother.
And he was my father. My biological father.
Karma squinted at the photo. "Hey. That looks like—"
I interrupted her. "That is a gorgeous woman, sir. May I ask why you are searching for her?"
"Her name is Candace," Amos said. "I was supposed to meet her here for our date. She asked me on a date."
I adjusted my glasses. "In the bathroom? You two were meeting up in the girls' bathroom?"
"Not the bathroom. The bar. I could not find her in the bar, so I sat at a table and waited for her. I waited for a good fifteen minutes, but she had still not shown up. I thought that maybe she was in the bathroom. It is why I am here. But I can tell that she is not in here." He put away the photo and sighed. "Knew that it was too good to be true. What girl would want to date me?"
He began walking off, but I grabbed ahold of his sleeve and tugged on it. He looked down at me and told me to let go. I shook my head, and he sighed.
"Please do not tell me that you are calling the police on me." I could easily see the worry in his eyes. "I-I do not want to go to jail. I have my entire life ahead of me."
I flashed him a smile and finally released him. "We are going to help you."
"We are?" Karma questioned.
"You are?" Amos asked. "How?"
"You are in luck. We spotted Candace not long ago."
His eyes lit up with excitement. "You did? Where?"
"Follow us."
Karma and I led Amos out of the bathroom and over to the bar section. I pointed to my mom. She remained at the bar and was sipping her drink. Amos thanked both of us and sat next to her.
"Not good," Karma commented.
