Have you readers noticed that in shows and movies, it takes a couple seconds or so for the main character or characters to time-travel? Not for me and Karma. This is a Forlot book. Why waste our - and your - time with filler when we can reach our destination in a flash?

That is exactly what happened. After my magical watch said, "Going back in time," this white light surrounded me and my friend and brought us to the past in a flash. I do not know how it brought us, however, it definitely brought us to the past. Karma and I were at the start of a war, and not just any war. World War II. Also known as the war between good and evil.

Thank the Lord from above that good won the war. But if Karma or I alternated the timeline in any way...

...the world as we know it now will cease to exist.

Karma scanned the new - which was old to us - scenery and asked, "Where are we?"

I climbed to my feet and dusted off my jumpsuit. "Take a guess where we are," I replied with a grin. "I will give you a hint. It is a place that you have always wanted to go."

"A place that I have always wanted to go, you say." She tapped her chin. "Hmm...Antarctica!"

I was not expecting her to say that. "No. We are not in Antarctica. Not even close."

"Oh."

"What made you think that we were in Antarctica?"

"They did." She pointed at something. Something that I thought that we would never see in the United States. Outside of the zoos anyway.

Parked on the side of the road was this grey truck. The trucks that were used during the war. I think. The door on the back of said truck resembled those cell doors, so Karma and I could see what was in the back. And what we saw made me froze.

Inside the truck was a penguin. Not just one penguin. I do not know how many there were, but there were tons of them. Tons of penguins. I recognized them to be the Emperor penguins. They are Karma's favorite animals.

Karma pressed her hands to her cheeks. "Penguins are soooooooooo cute!"

A penguin in front sneezed.

"Awe! You are so cute when you sneeze! Yes, you are!"

Do you know that feeling that you get when something is not quite right? That is how I was feeling. Whoever - or whatever - owned the truck was planning something for those poor penguins. The question is...what?

I helped Karma up and motioned for her to follow me.

"Where are we going?"

"We will be checking out the truck and the penguins," I said. "I want to make sure that they are okay."

She squealed. "We are checking the cute penguins! We are checking the cute penguins!"

I turned my head to her and put a finger on my lips. "I would keep your voice down if I were you, Karma. You do not want us to be caught and alter the timeline."

We started walking over to the truck.

"Carmen. Why do you think that we would ever..." Her voice trailed off. "Did you say...alter the timeline?"

"That I did."

Her face twisted in confusion. "Why did you say that?"

"Do you seriously not know where we are, Karma?"

"I know that we are not at home."

I opened my mouth to speak, but I heard a man's voice say, "What do you think that you girls are up to?"

Crub.

We were inches from the truck, when a man appeared. Although that he had wrinkles on his face and the back of his hands, he was not old. Karma and I guessed that he was in his twenties or thirties.

"I am sorry, sir," I apologized. "My friend and I wanted to see the penguins."

He crossed his arms and shook his head. "Everybody is forbidden to see these penguins."

"Why?"

Karma suddenly screamed and grasped my shoulders. "Carmen, look! Look at his eyes!"

The man then reached out and grabbed my neck. "You will never stop me!"
