"I can control my destiny, but not my fate. Destiny means there are opportunities to turn right or left, but fate is a one-way street. I believe we all have the choice as to whether we fulfil our destiny, but our fate is sealed."

The training was picking up, becoming more demanding with each day that passed by, but that wasn't the worst. What made the training worse was the fact that the men didn't want her there. During training something always happened to her, whether it was landing flat on her back or being yelled at by Sobel. It pissed her off, but she took it. She took everything they threw at her because she needed to do this. She needed to get to Europe.
Over the course of the weeks, Eugene and Juliet have gotten to know each other better during medical lectures - well, more like she has gotten to know him instead. Juliet was a coffer whose key had been long lost. She couldn't open up to anyone. She didn't know how to do it without ending up in tears. And Eugene was becoming suspicious that she was trying to hide something because every time he tried to ask about her family; she just changed the topic. He never pointed out, appreciating the small details she'd shared with him, he knew sooner or later she would come out of her shell.
When the two weeks without a weekend pass were up, the men of Easy Company celebrated, talking among themselves how many ladies they would have in each arm or who would get drunk first. Needless to say, Sobel revoked half of the company's passes after their last Friday march, including hers, and while half of the company was out having fun on a Saturday night, the other half was stuck at camp fulfilling their assigned duties. It didn't matter to her, this time it wasn't her fault, but some still blamed her for Sobel's decisions. Everything was her fault, it's the price she had to pay for being a woman.
On Sunday, Juliet was assigned to latrine duty with five other privates by Sobel. The unlucky men were: Sisk, Guarnere, Webster, Malarkey, Toye, and Luz. Lieutenant Winters gave them all a pair of gloves, a stiff apron to wear over their OD's, buckets of water, a brush and a sponge, before setting them off to work.
"Are you okay being here by yourself?" Winters asked once the men had gone inside the latrines.
"Yes, sir."
"Report to me if they give you a hard time, Private," he told her with a kind smile.
Ever since her panic attack, she had been trying to avoid both Lieutenants, especially Nixon. By the way Winter had been acting around her, she was aware that Nixon had told Winters what he'd witnessed in the bathroom. Winters had always been a gentleman to her, always checking in to see if there were any issues with the men and making sure she was at ease, but she had recently seen him being more attentive than ever. The good news was that neither of the Lieutenants have asked why she'd reacted that way. And she hoped it stayed like that, she just wanted to forget it ever happened in the first place.
