"A'right Professor?" The familiar sound of Fred Weasley chimed as he fell into step with his potions mistress. The second twin followed not far behind, excitedly bounding ahead before slowing to a steady pace, walking backwards as the group made their way through the castle halls.
"Hello boys." The witch replied apprehensively.
"So y'know that thing we told about you the other night?" George said attempting to be as inconspicuous as possible for the benefit of Professor Snape, the presence of which neither of the boys had attempted to acknowledge until now.
"The thing involving something... hot and scaley? Fred elaborated half-heartedly.
"I remember. And Severus' already knows, there is no need to be coy."
Professor Snape continued walking silently along side his apprentice, periodically side-eyeing the students chatting away to her like close friends.
"Right. Well, Charlie's bringing them over tonight if you're interested?"
"Interested in meeting the dragons? Are you joking? Of course, I am!" She practically shrieked at the prospect.
Gradually slowing to a halt, Aria and the twins lowered their voices in order to properly discuss the details.
Severus continued walking for a few more paces, uninterested in the conversation he knew he was not a part of. Although he was initially content with returning to the dungeons alone, it occurred to him seconds later that possibly Aria would miss his company as she journeyed back.
Stopping halfway down the empty corridor, Snape tried his best to focus his mind elsewhere, but ultimately could not help overhearing the hushed conversation happening a few feet away from him.
"Those boys truly are idiotic." He commented as Aria returned back to him.
"How do you mean?" She replied, her brow furrowed disapprovingly.
"Well, evidently they tried so hard to keep this little rendezvous a secret from me, or rather any of the faculty, besides yourself, yet still I overheard every word of their pathetic little plan. Really, what is stopping me from giving them detention and reporting them to the Headmaster?"
"You wouldn't."
"Wouldn't I?" He threatened, making intense eye contact with the woman. "Trekking down to the Forbidden Forest after dark? Obtaining knowledge that could jeopardize a centuries old competition. They are blatantly disobeying the castle rules; rules Dumbledore put in place to protect the entire student body. Now I highly doubt he'll be pleased to hear a professor, his own granddaughter no less, is permitting a couple of students break those rules. Not to mention putting themselves at risk and all to visit a couple of dragons?"
"Oh come on Severus, you know I wouldn't allow them to go if I thought it was dangerous. There'll be a professional dragon tamer there, and they'll be in cages. Don't tell me you're so heartless you wouldn't even let them out for an hour or two to visit their own brother?"
"Why? It's not as if they have a shortage of them."
"Please, Severus. If not for them, for me. I've never seen a dragon up close before." She begged, ignoring his snarky comments.
The stern faced potions master looked upon his assistant's face; her eyes wide and pleading. He couldn't say no to her.
Turning away, Severus chose to say no more on the topic, neither forbidding nor condoning her actions.
Aria considered it a win.
As the pair came off the spiral staircase and rounded the corner to the dungeons, Aria forced herself to a sudden stop, grabbing onto Severus sleeve forcing him to do the same.
