I looked up to see a man, somewhere around my age. He had messy brown hair and I couldn't tell his eye color because of the sunglasses he wore. He had an unzipped black hoodie with a grey shirt underneath, some dark blue jeans, and black converse.

He held out a hand to help me get up.

I stared up at him, thinking. Should I really take his hand? I mean, who wears sunglasses inside? Drug dealers? He seems too nice to be a drug dealer though... I saw his body shift uncomfortably under my gaze. Fuck it!

I reached up and grabbed his hand. It was... cold... pale... not dead or anything but enough to be noticeable. He smiled and pulled me up. I felt my weight shift and I tripped a bit, nearly falling into his muscular chest.  I regained my balance and looked up at him with a blush of embarrassment.

"Are you alright?" He asked, tilting his head a bit with care and... regret... in his voice..? "Oh yeah, I'm fine!" I chuckled a bit. "Just a little fall!" He smiled with a look of relief. I could've sworn I saw him glance at my necklace with a small smile, though he quickly looked back at me. "Good! Oh... psychology?" You paused, staring at him with a puzzled look till he pointed to something behind you. The books! "Oh! yeah! I uh... I go to Stanford. Gotta finish those essays!" The awkward, enthusiastic look on my face soon shifted to one of cringe. He chuckled at my awkward gesture.

"I'm Jack, but you can call me EJ." He extended his hand for me to shake. "Y/N, but everyone calls me Odette." I smiled shaking his hand. "Well Odette, let me help you with these." He responded almost instantly, walking to the books and picking up two of them. I quickly walked in his direction picking up the third book. I held out my arms waiting for him to place the books on top of the one currently in my hands but instead, he spoke. "I can help you carry them if you want." I smiled a bit at him a mix of surprise and suspicion in my eyes. "Really?" I raised a brow. "Yeah, it's really no trouble!" he started walking back in the direction of where I was sitting.

3rd POV:

Y/N followed behind the tall man, smiling at his seemingly aimless kindness. He seemed quite nice. Though maybe he just felt bad for Y/N. Eventually, the two made their way to the table the girl was sitting at. Jack placed the books off to the side of her notes.

He pulled out the chair, motioning for the girl to sit down. She giggled and sat in the chair. EJ pushed the chair in a bit, till she was a comfortable distance from the table. "Alright! I think you're good, If you need anything just let me know." He said a smile appeared in his voice. Y/N laughed a bit and thanked him before he disappeared amongst the bookshelves.

Y/N POV:

I made my way through the first two books. Only one left! I opened the book, a small crackle emerging from the spine. I flipped to the table of contents, soon finding the chapter I needed. I made my way to said page, sighing at all the text. I made my way, skimming over the sea of words finding anything important. After finding a few of my "vocabulary words" I grabbed my notebook. I wrote down the words. I let my mind wander as I nearly copied and pasted parts of the text.

I soon wrote mindlessly, zoning out but still writing. Words were just scribbles on a paper now. I copied those scribbles into the notebook. I had written pages upon pages of notes. My handwriting got worse and worse as time went on. After a while, I felt like my hand was going to fall off. "Ugh..." I groaned. I picked up a stack of pages from the textbook, dropping them. I watched them fall individually till I saw something sticking out of one of the pages. A makeshift bookmark of sorts. A folded-up piece of paper.

1-***-***-****

Call me

EJ

I smiled at the small note. Alright, I'll keep it in mind. I thought pulling out the paper and grabbing my coat. I put it back on and stuffed the paper into its pocket. I wrapped the scarf around my neck. I put my laptop and various binders and notebooks back into my backpack. Once it was on my back I swung my purse over my shoulder. I grabbed all the books I finished, putting them on a cart by the table. Soon I picked up the book with Jack's note and walked towards the librarian's desk.

After a minute of exchanging words, I had the book placed in my backpack, checked out. I smiled walking out of the building and into the cold. I walked a bit quickly back to my apartment. Running up the stairs I gasped a bit and pushed the door open. Turning to the right I was soon met with my door. I grabbed my keys out of my purse and unlocked the door.

Placing my keys in the bowl, I put down my backpack and purse. I dropped the scarf around the hatrack. Already feeling much lighter I slid off my coat, feeling less warm and practically weightless. I grabbed the paper and walked into the kitchen.

I dropped the paper onto the counter and made my second cup of tea for the day. After a few minutes, I poured boiling water into the mug and watched the color change due to the teabag. I grabbed a teaspoon and poked at the teabag. I watched the water get a little more pigmented with each jab. When I felt it had steeped enough I dumped the tea bag into the trash and made my way to the coffee table.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After enjoying my tea and the moment all together, I stood up. I had my mug in hand as I walked towards the sink. I placed the cup into the sink with a bit of a clatter when I remembered the teaspoon left on the counter. I picked it up and saw the folded-up parchment. I grabbed it along with the spoon. I walked to the sink, yet again, placing the spoon inside. Once satisfied I sat back down on the sofa by the short table. I stared at the note for a moment, picking up my phone.
"1-***-***-****, huh?"
