Black Roses (Naruto)

Chapter 17 - Encounter

His eyes slowly cracked open, 

He stared at the darkness above him as crimson petals fell.

He stood up with a stumble, tucking a strand of black hair behind his ear.

This place, it seemed so......familiar...?

He walked forward, pausing in his steps as he spotted something twinkling under the petals.

What is your dream?

A glass shard.

What do you live for?

He stared at his own reflection.

"What do I.....live for?" he muttered to himself.

Hearing a groan, he turned back to see a little Naruto running around his younger self.

"I....."

He clutched the glass shard tighter, blood flowing down his hand.

"...don't even know anymore......"

"Now, hmm.....which guy looks the most irritating...?" Shinji hummed.

Naruto rolled his eyes.

"Are you sure about this?"

"Why? You're scared?" Shinji smirked.

".....Maybe."

Shinji stared into Naruto's eyes. 

He sighed before patting Naruto's head, giving his hair a ruffle as Naruto slapped his hand away. 

"Don't worry, I'll be fine."

"He's approaching...." Ino muttered.

Her eyes snapped open "Fast!"

Shikamaru glanced at Sasuke and Kiba who nodded.

A black blur raced past them.

"Now!"

Shinji grabbed Ino by her neck with a smirk as his eyes shone red, slamming her into a tree only for a wave to wash over him.

"He disappeared," Ino's eyes widened.

"Ino, you okay!?" Shikamaru yelled from a distance as he leaped backwards, eyes darting around.

"Sorry, I let my guard down," Ino narrowed her eyes. "He's fast..."

"Are you alright?" Ohashi asked with a frown as she appeared next to Ino who nodded. 

"Not that big of a wound. I'll continue trying to pinpoint his location," Ino said. "He's running around us in circles..."

Her eyes widened. "Taira-san, behind you-"

She froze as she saw Shinji smirking, a kunai through the chunin's neck.

Those red eyes that looked like they can kill with one look.

"TAIRA!" Arita screamed.

"Arita-san, there's no use, concentrate on the fight," Ohashi narrowed her eyes.

"I know," Arita growled.

"I wonder who's next?" Ino heard a whisper in her ear.

She spun around. "CHOJI!"

Choji held up his hands to block any incoming attack only for Arita to appear behind him, blocking Shinji's attack.

"Hoh?" Shinji's grin widened.

"You like attacking from behind, hm?" Arita narrowed his eyes.

"Does that make you think I can't fight you face to face?" Shinji laughed lightly. He swung his katana upwards and threw a kick only for his leg to be slashed by Arita.

"Ah, frick," Shinji chuckled. "I guess it'll be hard to fight this much people myself head on...."

Almost as if in slow motion, Sasuke leaped towards Shinji with his katana from behind, eyes filled with rage and hatred.

"....hm?" Shinji turned around.

"You're dead this time!" Sasuke yelled.

Shinji scoffed lightly, dodging before landing a spinning kick onto Sasuke's neck, knocking him out.

He pulled Sasuke up by his hair, katana at his neck.

"Strip yourselves."

"What...?" Sakura whispered.

"Drop your weapons and strip yourselves, or he dies."

Arita clicked his tongue.

"Remember, I'm faster than any of you here," Shinji smiled.

"3...."

Sakura's eyes widened.

"ONE!" Shinji yelled, a crazed grin on his face.

He dropped Sasuke's unconscious body onto the ground, Choji catching him just in time.

"Man, look at your faces," Shinji laughed.

"What...the hell do you want with us..?" Sakura growled.

"You were the ones who kept following me, right?" Shinji laughed lightly. "Do you expect me to just sit there and let you take my head back to Konoha?"

"Neji...Tenten, Lee....Kakashi sensei's death. What the hell do you want?" Sakura whispered, eyes filled with anger.

"Oh....right," Shinji smiled. "I was looking for someone."

Kiba took this chance to charge in with Akamaru. "Fang over fang!"

Shinji put his hand up to his side.

"Like hell....you can block this attack with just your hand!" Kiba yelled.

His eyes widened as a clone of Shinji leaped down from above.

"Gotcha," the clone whispered, only to be thrown back by his shirt as Kaoru retreated with Kiba and Akamaru.

"T-Thanks..." Kiba stammered.

"Don't go rushing in just yet," Kaoru narrowed his eyes.

".....This is getting boring," Shinji groaned. "I'll start..."

His eyes glowed red as he smiled. "....getting serious then."
