VIOLET

The morning sun streamed through the large windows of Violet's room, casting a warm glow over her bed. While stretching, she opened one eye and glanced outside.

Yay! It's a beautiful day today!

Summer had always been Violet's favorite season because she loved the smell of the summer air, the beautiful butterflies, and the warm breeze that caressed her skin. However, she wasn't allowed outside of the property much without protection, so she usually enjoyed the summer from her backyard. She was glad that her cousins also lived here at the estate. Violet spends most of her time with her cousin, Isabella Bianchi, as they are the only two girls in the family and are quite close. She wasn't sure what she would do living in a house full of men without Isabella.

Her mind drifted back to the man from last night. Although she didn't know much about him, all she knew was that this must be Lorenzo De Luca and he was one of the most dangerous mafia men out there. Her and Isabella had eavesdropped one night after seeing their family in distress over a matter that they were not allowed to know about and they mentioned that they would benefit from forming an alliance with Lorenzo.

Something about him drew her in. He was intimidating, yes, but she sensed more under that cold and deadly composure. Violet had a habit of looking past the hard exterior that people display and wonder what else they had to offer. She wasn't naive, she knew he had done bad things and that he had lost his heart long ago. But she also knew that in everyone, there is a tiny sliver of emotion that hangs on as it never fully disappears.

Violet had never really had a crush before because it can be quite difficult when having three protective brothers and being a mafia princess. However, she couldn't stop thinking about how handsome Lorenzo was. His striking gray eyes were ingrained in her mind and she never wanted to forget them. She knew a man like him would never like a shy, inexperienced girl like her, but she hoped she would see him again.

A knock on the door pulled Violet out of her thoughts. It was her cousin, Isabella, wearing a cheerful smile as she burst through into the room.

"Good morning, my dear cousin, Vi!" She chirped, flopping down onto Violet's bed. "I was thinking we could take a walk in the gardens today. You know, to scope out any delicious men. I heard Lorenzo De Luca will be staying here for a few weeks and I'm sure he brought some of his men." She wiggled her eyebrows. "I overheard my brother, Dante, say that they will be having their meeting outside today." Violet giggled at her cousin's craziness. Isabella had always been a bit of a wild child and had gotten both of them in trouble countless times, but it was always harmless stuff.

She hesitated, deciding whether it would be a good idea to snoop around during their meeting. She didn't want her brothers or more importantly, Lorenzo, getting angry with her. However, the eagerness she felt to see Lorenzo again was stronger than the worry of getting in trouble.

"Um, sure, that sounds nice!" Violet said.

Isabella squealed and grabbed Violet's arm, dragging her downstairs and outside into the garden. The garden was vast, with tall hedges and winding paths that led to hidden alcoves and shaded benches. The most ethereal part of the garden was the stunning fountain placed in the center that resembled the Fountain of Trevi; it was her favorite place to sit down and read.
