"What happened?"

Selene croaked as she shifted in her bed sheets and immediately let out a few coughs in response to her burning throat. The sudden sound of her voice awoke Sam, who gripped her hand tightly in his while laying on a chair beside her. Her eyes squinted as she reacted to the bright lights in her room from the open curtains.

"You're up?" his tired voice called out as he hurriedly moved to the bedside to pass a glass a water. Gulping it down, Selene couldn't help but feel like an old woman as she moved her sore limbs.

"I don't understand why I feel so tired and sore. What happened, Sam?" she asked once again. The concerned look on his face didn't help ease any of the worry that was building up.

"You don't remember anything, at all?" He asked, unsure of what to say or do.

"No, Sam, I'm just asking for the fun of it." She rolled her eyes at him, but immediately became guilty from the flash of hurt that appeared on his face.

Looking down at her lap, she fiddled with her fingers, twisting and playing with them as she thought back to the hazy night. It felt like a drunk haze and random blackouts that she had no way of interpreting what she does remember, although it was odd, since she didn't drink more than 2 cups of beer.

"I remember flashes... like bright golden lights. My arms were burning, and the voices- they screamed for me to help them."

Selene looked up at him with tear brimmed eyes. She remembered how the night had led her to momentarily think back to her past and trapped her in it. How she thought she was back in Astoria, but this time she wasn't running away from the burned ones that plagued the land.

How deluded she was. For a moment she actually thought she was back in the past.

Years of survivals guilt weighed her down heavily and Selene burst into sobs.

"I- we never- we couldn't save them. It was our job and we-" she gasped as she tried to take in a breath but couldn't.

Rushing over to her bed, Sam sat on it and pulled her into a hug allowing her to cry on his shoulder. Playing with her hair as he rocked her and waited for her to calm down he tried to soothe the mind fairy who always seems to be doing the latter to others.

"Everything's alright, Lenna. You helped save Silva. No one was hurt." He tried, wondering if he had forgotten that they had indeed killed the burned one without harming themselves.

Unknown to Sam, of course, Selene wasn't mourning any of her friends.

At the doorway of the room, oblivious to the couple, Stella watched her old friend breakdown and the guilt whenever she sees her resurfaces. Knowing what truly happened to the neighbouring Kingdom, she shut the door and walked off. If only they were seven, she mused, when there were no worries except getting lost in the fields of their castles, but, alas, everyone grows up.

If Selene didn't hate Stella now, she would if she learnt the truth, and Stella wasn't going to tell her any time soon.

The day went on while the two teenagers laid in bed, comforting one another. Once Selene felt she was finally calm enough to leave her quarters, the two gingerly walked side by side to the headmistresses office.

When they reached the office, Selene felt sighed with relief, her limbs still as sore as when she had woken up. The walk had a high demand on her body that caused her breathing to deepen. knocking lightly on the door, she took notice that the assistant who was at the beck and call of Farah Dowling's every command was nowhere to be seen. Before she could dwell on it further, the door swung open and allowed her entry to deal with her actions from the night before.
