ACT ONE, CHAPTER ONE.

"I ENROLLED YOU INTO HIGH SCHOOL AGAIN." Was the first thing Derek Hale said to his brother as they drove past the city sign of Beacon Hills. Regulus only let out an irritated scoff. "Can't you just homeschool me ?"

"I have work to do here." He rolled his eyes. "You don't even have a job." Regulus said.

"We will not even discuss it. You need to socialise. You don't have any friends." Derek grumbled.

"I have you." Regulus shrugged. "A real friend. I'm your brother." Derek told him, driving into the forest.

Truthfully, they weren't even friends. Laura was the glue of the trio. With Laura gone, there was nothing that held them together, except the pack. They started to drift away more and more.

The car stopped in front of the burned Hale house. They both just stared at it in complete silence, Regulus felt like he should feel at least a few emotions, but he did not feel anything at all. Call him cruel but he does not even remember their faces anymore.

It just looked like the last time he saw it. In this house, his Family burned to ashes. The only one who was in there and survived was Peter. Derek, Peter and Laura were the only ones left for him. "I'm going to visit Uncle Pete in the Hospital. Don't wait for me."

He got out of the car and rubbed his eyes wearily. Without a second glance at his Brother, he made his way towards the hospital.

At the reception of the hospital sat a middle-aged brunette woman with a kind smile. Regulus gave her a small smile. "Good Evening, ma'am. I wanted to visit Peter Hale. Would that be possible?" Reggie tried to be as polite as possible so the nurse would grant his wish. She shortly searched out the information and Regulus wrote his name down on the visitor list.

The nurse showed Regulus the door to his Uncles Room and left shortly after that. Hesitantly he opened the door. Peter sat in a wheelchair looking out of the window.

Regulus walked into the room and closed the door behind him. He did not know how to Approach his Uncle. All the thoughts he had in his head before had vanished. All that was left was a silent Regulus.

He swallowed hard. "Hello Uncle Pete," He started in a squeaky voice. He probably sounded like he did not use it in years. "I hope you can hear me, so I don't make a complete fool out of myself."

He got himself to step more into the room. Step after step after step. He counted the steps in his head to pass the uncomfortable silence that hung over the room. Maybe he was imagining it.

"I hope you recognize my scent. If not then that's okay too, don't worry." He let out an awkward chuckle. "It's me, Uncle Pete. Regulus," Peter didn't react, so he used it as a clue to keep talking. "your nephew."

Reggie grabbed himself a chair and sat in front of Peter. That was the first time that he noticed that half of his Uncles face was covered with burn scars. He looked horrible. Not because of the scars, but because of his eyes. They were so empty and yet so full of sadness.

If you didn't know his backstory and if the scars weren't visible, you would think he was just having a daydream. A horrible one. In a daydream, you could just snap out of it, but Peter couldn't.

He was trapped in his own mind. Alone with his thoughts. What did he think about all the time?

Regulus couldn't look him into his eyes, so he chooses to rather watch his hands.
"Derek and Laura thought It'd be better for me to grow up in New York than Beacon Hills after the accident. I do regret that we left you here alone. But we're back now. We're trying to find Laura. She kind of vanished." He spoke.

"New York was cool you'd have loved it. One day when you have fully recovered, maybe we can visit New York as a family. I mean it smells like shit all of the time but there are always weird people on the streets. It never gets boring." He told him.

Both of them knew it was a lie. They would never visit New York together.

"We'd be together. All you have to do is to recover, while Derek and I search for Laura. Derek thinks that the Hunters got to her but that's unlikely. Laura is too smart to get caught by them." He chuckled to himself.

"I called Klaus a week ago. He told me to say hi to you for him." Klaus was something like his mentor. His mother befriended him because of Regulus. He was not like the werewolves of the Hale pack. He was more of a different kind. He would transform every full moon if he would trigger his curse.

Regulus enjoyed his trip to the hospital, and he enjoyed finally talking to someone who isn't Derek. It was good for both Hales. The nurse from earlier threw him out half an hour later because the visitors' time passed.

Moving into the Hale house again wasn't ideal, but Derek insisted to. There wasn't much space that was burned. He didn't even bother to pack out his things in fear they'd get dirty. At least the floors and the beds were clean.

He grabbed a book out of his bag and made himself as comfortable as he could. While he was reading, he must have fallen asleep because when Derek came in to check on him, he was already dreaming.
