<Keep up with me as we lose control.>
"Miles?"
Sofia looked concerned as Miles sat across from her on their dinner date, eyes glazed over and obviously not paying any attention to her. He didn't respond.
No, Miles was thinking about soft lips, long brown hair and a dangerous smile. The way his body had melted against his perfectly, that smell of whiskey and a fresh pack of cigarettes.
Soft fingers on his chin startled Miles out of his day dream. Sofia gave him a smile and Miles had to admit, she was gorgeous. Her delicate features were framed by the setting sun from the restaurant window and her thick brown hair was curled and sat perfectly on one shoulder. Her bright red lipstick reminded Miles of blood, making him feel slightly nauseous.
"Daydreaming?"
She asked with a soft giggle, stroking his cheek. Miles brought his hand up to hers, desperately wanting to push it away but instead letting his fingers close around hers.
"You could say that..."
He finally responded with a gentle smile, not wanting to be rude. He could feel the eyes glued to his back, the Don seated a few tables behind them with his parents. He could hear them chatting away merrily about wedding plans and locations.
"Thinking about the Turners, then?"
Sofia's question was sudden and it made Miles bang his knee up against the table as he jerked over to fully face her. Her hand dropped down from his face and made its way back into her own lap. Several people paused to stare at them but returned to their conversation after a few awkward moments.
"I guess that's an answer in itself, isn't it?"
Sofia's soft voice was almost drowned out by the commotion of the restaurant around them but nonetheless he could still hear her.
"I'm sorry about the other day. That was awfully rude of them. That Alex boy, especially. He should know better. I've talked with my father about it, he says he understands. After all, family is the most important thing right?"
Sofia was being gentle, trying her best to make him feel better. He knew what she was getting at but sensed she was kind enough to not explicitly bring up the topic about his brother, which he was immensely thankful for.
"Yes, it's... There's nothing quite like that bond, is there?"
"The bond that we'll soon share."
Sofia responded with a smile, making Miles' heart clench. And there went the mood again. This marriage... it was really throwing him out of sorts.
"Yes, I... can't wait.."
Miles mumbled with a forced smile, trying his best to be polite. He really didn't want to hurt her feelings, not to mention the fact that he really didn't want a dagger in his back from the Don if he accidentally made Sofia cry.
Miles thought back to what Alex had said, the words echoing around in his head.
My father was going to kill you, alright?!
He thought back to what he could remember on that day. For some reason it had always seemed like Alex had been the one pulling the trigger, but looking back on it now? It all seemed different. That smile he always swore Alex had on his face after shooting his brother was actually a grimace from the bullet in his shoulder. His father clapping him on the back.... yet Miles realized Alex hadn't returned his father's smile, being pulled away from the scene before he could even try and say anything.
