"Okay," She said slowly, "but more specifically, who are you?" "I am Nightmare." Moonlight said. "I had a nightmare." "Not that kind of nightmare, the kind of Nightmare where Nightmare is actually your name." Moonlight corrected. "You look tired. You ought to get some sleep." "Maybe I should," Maia murmured. "Here. Would you like some blueberry tea? It helps you sleep." "Thanks," Maia said, accepting the cup a shadow passed to her. She quickly drank it and lay down, closing her eyes. Within a few seconds, nothing could wake her up - not even when a shadow crashed cymbals together. "It should be safe now, your majesty." The shadow said as another shadow gave Moonlight a bottle filled with black smoke. Moonlight screwed open the cap and held it under Maia's nose. She breathed it in and coughed. Moonlight waited until she'd breathed in all the smoke, then closed the bottle again and quietly left Maia to sleep. "Where am I?" Maia asked as she looked around. She was surrounded by light. Light here, light there, light everywhere. "Am I dead?" She wondered, remembering the Roman myths she used to read over and over again, whenever she could. "No, you are still in the land of the living, child." A woman's voice said. "Are you..." "Diana." The woman finished. "The Roman goddess of the hunt." Maia realized. Diana, Jupiter's daughter, was standing in front of her. "Is this a dream?" "Of course it is." Diana waved her hand dismissively. "This is a dream which your imagination conjured up. I am simply here to aid you." "In what?" Maia asked. Her extremely slow brain was still trying to wrap her head around this dream. "Your choice. You could tell yourself to go to Olympus, and you'd get to see it yourself, even if it was a dream." Diana said. "I want to wake up," Maia whispered. "If that is what you truly want, child, then it is a wish that can be granted." Diana waved her hand and everything went black. The last thing Maia heard was, "Be careful what you do, child." and Diana said to herself, "She will fix this somehow. I just have to hope." "Ah, the sleeper wakes."
