mel is sitting by themselves. alone in the corner of the lunchroom, just like they always are. mel has garnered a sort of reputation for being a lone wolf, but in reality there's nothing they want more than a best friend they can really talk to. the closest they have to a best friend is ella, who mel think only talks to them because they try to be nice to everyone.

minion rock is playing on mel's headphones as they see ella walk up to them. but it's different this time. someone is following them.... hannah? mel had never really talked to hannah, she always seemed kind of weird. but it was their junior year, might as well talk to one other person.

"hey mel. what's up?" ella said as they approached the table.

"nothing- who is this?"

"this is hannah. i thought u guys could b friends? i guess?" ella seemed uncomfortable.

"I guess. hello, hannah." Hannah sat down. she had a banana in her hand.

"you like bananas?" mel asked, feigning disinterest.

"oh, yeah. ella gave this to me. they're pretty nice." Hannah said. "you like bananas? I've never met another hybrid who likes them. i thought it was more of a minion thing."

"oh, yea. my mom, lucy, left when I was little, so my dad bob raised me. seeing as he's a minion, we kinda only eat bananas."

"oh- sorry, i didnt know-"

"its fine. i dont tell many people. well, i actually havent told anyone. idk . its not a big deal." mel replied.

hannah was, well, thouched? "so i guess i have to tell you a secret now." mel looked flustered.

"you dont ha-"

"no, its fine. i have an enlarged thyroid. its not something i ever tell people because, well, its different."

mel smiled. hannah smiled back.

"want some of my banana?"
