I have tried my best to be historically accurate, but I probably didn't get the personalities of any historical figures that appear right, so please keep that in mind.
Colonies had never known what true joy was until New England Confederation was born. It was the happiest day of his life, finding out that he had a daughter. Colonies dedicated his life to making sure she was safe and happy, making sure she had everything she needed to be satisfied.
She sometimes called him overbearing, but they loved each other anyway.
She was his world, his life, and Colonies would do anything for her.
So when his father called Colonies into his office, saying he had important news about New England Confederation, Colonies was quick to follow. While New England Confederation was his daughter, she was also part of the British Empire, and his father was ultimately in charge of them both.
"Father, is something wrong with New England? Will she be okay? Are the natives planning to attack? Is France plan—" Colonies cut himself off and bowed his head as his father raised a hand in the air. "Apologies, Father. I am just concerned for my daughter's safety."
'Maybe it has something to do with m—I mean, with Massachusetts Bay's revoked charter? Maybe they're restoring the charter, and Union will apologize for all the trouble he caused.'
'Crowns? Apologize? That'll be the day.'
"An admirable trait. However, I have some unfortunate news for you," Father said. A bolt of fear ran through Colonies, cold and intense, nearly knocking him off his feet.
"Yes, Father? What is it?" Colonies said, trying his best to swallow down his fear.
Father knows what's best. Father knows what's best. Father knows what's best. Father knows what's best.
Whatever his father had to say, it would be for the betterment of the empire.
"New England Confederation is going to be replaced," Father said, his voice sounding so calm. Colonies, however, nearly collapsed at the news, the cold fear being realized. He knew—New England Confederation and father had been having difficulties, he knew that, but...but surely.
'No. No. He's lying. That can't be true. She's not going to die!'
'Oh, New England.'
'Not again! We can't lose another one.'
"Father, you don't mean..." Colonies began, hoping he was just misinterpreting things, hoping that Father just meant that New England Confederation was getting a new government, not... not dying.
"Unfortunately, yes, that does mean that she will die," Father said, walking over and pulling Colonies into a hug, resting his hand against the back of Colonies' head. "I am so sorry, my son. I had hoped that she would live to become the new dominion that was being created, but I fear it will not be so."
'So she dies, and we have to get a new one? That's so unfair!'
'Will the new one be Union's kid?'
"Have you...have you told her? Does she know?" Colonies asked. Father pulled away from the hug, his hands on Colonies' shoulders, before shaking his head.
"No...I have not. We have been getting into arguments lately, as I'm sure you've heard, and I fear that she will just blame me for what is going to happen. If you don't mind...well, could you be the one to tell her? That my government had decided that she is dangerous and needs to be culled, and how they hope to replace her with a...a more agreeable countryhuman?" Father asked. Colonies nodded.
