You tried your best to capture the way the leaves on the trees would move with the wind. It was harder than you thought it would be, but you smiled to yourself nonetheless. You liked a challenge, especially one that kept your mind and hands busy.

Within the few months that you've moved to Japan, you always felt the need to keep busy, to keep going. Your mom decided to move back to Japan once your grandmother had gotten sick. You didn't like the idea — moving away from all your friends and familiar places back to Japan where you knew absolutely nobody and nothing — but you didn't voice your concern when your mom said it.

You knew how close your mom and your grandmother were even when your mom moved countries, so how could you have possibly objected to it?

Looking back on it now, at least on your end, the process seemed quick. You remembered finishing at your high school a week earlier, packing up all of your belongings, saying goodbye to your friends, and then getting on a plane. You spent the summer unpacking, being confused, angry, and scared, and then you were walking to Karasuno high school to start your last year.

It just had to be your last year of school too. You had to start over in a place where everyone would already have established friend groups and were already in their respective clubs. And you were still adjusting from your move. You decided it would be best if you kept your head down, passed your courses, and then made friends in university.

It had been okay, only a bit lonely.

Then, one day, you saw someone in the hallway struggling to carry boxes. She had shoulder length black hair and wore black track pants with a volleyball club jacket. Despite your rule about not making friends, you were glad to have met Kiyoko.

Right before she tripped over, you rushed up to her and grabbed the top box and helped her steady herself. From that, she had introduced you to volleyball and the energetic boys who played it.

The sketchbook that only held your drawing also became home to Karasuno's volleyball statistics, rough plays, and a running count of how many times Kageyama and Hinata would argue.

You brought your eyes back to the sketchbook that laid on your lap. An incoherent mess of lines and shapes had filled your page. You guessed it could count as leaves if one were standing very far away and squinted really hard.

You twirled the pencil in your hand. Maybe you should start over. You still had time before you had to be at school and it wasn't as if you had an abundance of things to do, with the exception of Karasuno's volleyball game later that day.
