Chapter 10

After your classes for the day had finished you walked outside to the courtyard. When you got outside you saw Soma and Megumi standing in front of the research society board. You walk over to them, "Hey Soma, hey Megumi," You say and they turn to you and give you a small wave, "Looking for research societies to join?" You ask, walking in between them looking at the board.

"Research society?" Soma asks confused and goes back to looking at the board.

"Yes, there's a lot of societies in Totsuki that specialize in different types of cooking" Megumi explains "After school, they develop new dishes or participate in cooking contests outside the school together. It might be something like clubs in normal schools" Megumi finishes explaining and I nod, "I'm part of the Local Cuisine Research Society."

"Hmmm," Soma then asks you, "Are you a part of a research society (Y/n)?"

"Nope, I do visit the Chinese Cuisine Research Society and the Shiomi Seminar though" I respond. Soma nods and continues looking at the various research societies on the board.

"Rice Bowl Research Society?" Soma thinks out loud, "That could be good for the restaurants. Let's go check it out, come on Megumi and (Y/n)!"

"M-me too!?" You and Megumi say at the same time then Soma drags you two along.

When you arrive at the Rice Bowl Research Society there's a guy with a black pompadour and a leather jacket slumping down sitting on a chair. "I'm sorry but go back, soon, the Rice Bowl Research Society will be shut down," The guy says looking sad. 'Why is it being shut down?' You thought, confused.

The guy in the chair looks up a bit to meet our gazes, "You said you were Soma, Megumi, and (Y/n), huh, I'm this place's chief."

"Are you ok? You seem..." Soma starts "Depressed or something." 'So blunt' you thought while looking at Soma.

"Hehehe... laugh at me. I couldn't even protect the Rice Bowl Research Society" Kanichi says in response.

Megumi sees a book on the ground and bends down to grab it, "This is... a recipe compilation?" she then hands the book to Soma, "It seems these are dishes the Rice Bowl Research Society thought about."

"Let's see," Soma says, opening the book. You walk over and lean on him trying to read the recipes not really paying attention to the closeness. You and Soma are amazed at all the dishes in the book 'How can they be getting shut down? They've put so much effort into these dishes...' You thought.

"All of these rice bowls are interesting! Why does the Rice Bowl Research Society have to shut down?" Soma says, taking the words right out of your mind.

"You understand..." Kanichi says then walks to place his hands on Soma's shoulders while crying "You understand, Soma!!" 'Yeah, no. I'm not dealing with him crying' You think then move to go stand by Megumi.

"He's crying!" Soma exclaims.

Kanichi then goes on to explain why rice bowls are so good ending with, "Damn... My Rice Bowl Research Society... If only Erina Nakiri wasn't here...!" You were surprised 'Erina's causing this much pain? She's causing a group that has put so much effort into everything shut down?' You thought. Kanichi then goes on to explain how Erina Nakiri does things 'I didn't know about this part, I thought she was only challenging people to a food war' You thought and you grimace in distaste to how she's doing things, it wasn't as fair as you thought it was.

"The Rice Bowl Research Society members," Kanichi starts, bringing you out of your thoughts, "As soon as they found out that the opponent this time is one of Nakiri's subordinates," Kanichi sits down, "They all ran away..." You felt bad for the guy.
