Chapter 8

"Awww she's so cute!" is the first thing you hear when you start to wake up.

Another voice says, "Shhh, you'll wake her up." You feel comfortable where you're laying and you cuddle against the warm thing beside you, not wanting to wake up. 'Wait this doesn't feel like a blanket' You think as you start to open your eyes. You see you're legs tangled with someones and your arms are wrapped around someone's arm. You look up and see Shun's face with a small blush on it.

You quickly get off him "I'm so sorry Shun, I didn't mean to fall asleep like that," You say panicking that you may have annoyed him.

Shun shakes his head, "No worries (Y/n)" he says then reaches over to ruffle your hair. You smile glad that he wasn't mad at you. You, Shun, Yuki, and Ryoko sat together talking.

You look around the room and see Soma cooking "Huh? Why is Soma cooking at this hour?" You ask groggily, still a bit tired.

"Shun was just telling us that it seems like they're in a cooking showdown" Ryoko replies.

You're confused, "Oh? Why?" You ask.

"I wonder, but it seems that this match was a challenge from Isshiki" Shun responds to your question.

You and the girls look over at Satoshi and you blush seeing him only wearing the apron. 'I thought that was a dream, I must have had too much rice juice' You thought 'He does look good tho-' You cut yourself off by shaking your head.

"In this case, don't we need to make comments about someone's attire?" Yuki asks.

Ryoko responds, "I would feel bad pouring cold water when they're having a showdown."

Soma brings out the food to the table, it looks so good and your mouth waters. "Yukihira's secret menu #20, Revamped! Mackerel onigiri chazuke!! This dish is normally made using salmon, but today I tried making it using Mackerel. Come on, there's enough for everyone, dig in!"

"Thank you very much, what's poured in it?" Ryoko asks and Soma responds telling her it salted kelp tea and why he used it.

"Geez!! If you make something like this I'll obviously get hungry!" Yuki says.

Everyone grabs a bowl and you frown a bit 'There's none left for me. I was really looking forward to it, it looked so good!'. "Ah sorry (Y/n), you were still asleep when I was cooking so I didn't make you one," Soma says apologetically.

"It's ok, I understand," You say with a small smile, still a bit sad.

"Don't worry (Y/n), you can have some of mine" Ryoko says to you.

Your eyes sparkle and you have a big smile, "Really?? Thank you so much!" You thank Ryoko and give her a hug. Ryoko smiles at you. Everyone who has a bowl takes their first bite and they all talk about how good it tastes. "Ryoko can I try?" You ask.

"Of course, here," Ryoko says then grabs a bit of the food in her chopsticks and points it towards you. You lean forward and eat the fish and rice off of her chopsticks. You instantly melt at the flavour.

"Ah, it's so good!" You say blissfully, Soma smiles seeing his dish make you so happy. Everyone continues eating their dish and then a thought came into some peoples in the room's minds 'Wait they had an indirect kiss!' earning a jealous look from half of the people awake.

"This mackerel was cooked doing 'Poelee'!" Satoshi exclaims and everyone looked surprised even Soma which you thought was odd since he cooked the dish.

"Why are you surprised too!!" Yuki shouts at Soma asking the question all of us were wondering.

"No, I was wondering what poelee is..." Soma says earning a huh from Yuki.

"Could you tell me, Soma... Why do you know a french cooking technique?" Satoshi asks Soma.

"Well, I learned this cooking method from my old man. He said that it was ideal to stylishly give the finishing touches to fish" Soma replies. Satoshi asks Soma if his dad had studied french cuisine, "Well I don't really know. It seems he's cooked in various countries," Soma answers his question. Everyone loved Soma's dish and was quickly eating it, Satoshi actually ended up crying because it was so good. Soma and Satoshi, whose apron is falling down, shake each other's hand concluding the match and leaving a scarred Megumi who just woke up to see that.

The group gets ready to head back to their dorm rooms. "Zenji! Zenji?" Yuki tries to wake up Zenji by giving little slaps to his face but to no avail.

"It's no good, he won't get up..." Ryoko says.

You and Shun are still sitting beside each other. Shun stands up and offers you a hand to stand up, you take it and he pulls you up. "Thank you," You say with a smile and Shun nods as a way of saying no problem. You and Shun walk to the door beside each other in the back of the group.

As you guys are leaving Shoji says, "We'll definitely clean before leaving next time, Zenji! Next time, for sure! Seriously!" You turn around to look at the mess you guys made and sigh.

"You guys continue on I'll clean up his room a bit," You say and give a little wave, they nod saying goodnight then they continue on walking. You head over to where all the plates are and start collecting them while Satoshi is draping a blanket over Zenji and Soma is sharpening his knife.

"Soma and (Y/n)! With this welcome party you're now part of the Polar Star," Satoshi tells us, "If there's anything you don't understand don't be afraid to ask."

"Then," Soma starts, "how can I become one of the elite ten or take the S Seat?" At this both you and Satoshi tense up which Soma found odd because it's not like you were on the ten, or so he thought.

Satoshi turns around to face him as I collect the rice juice bottles and place them in one spot avoiding looking at Soma. "Fufu, that's right, you're taking this academy's top, right?" Satoshi asks.

"I'm in the middle of a fight with my old man. For him to approve of me I have to do that much," Soma says, "Our showdown just now ended up as a tie, but if I had beaten you now, would I have become Totsuki's #7?" Soma asks, you try not to giggle knowing that what Soma had just experienced right now was not Satoshi's full cooking ability and he had a long way to go.

Satoshi grins then he starts crying tears of joy with a big smile on his face, "Wonderful!! That's wonderful ambition, Soma!" Satoshi says and you feel awkward being in the room not talking and just cleaning. "I'm moved right now, students living in the Polar Star should be like this!" Satoshi says and Soma sweat drops and agrees. "But, let's postpone this for now, it's really late. Let's rest too, Soma!" Satoshi ends the conversation. 'The words you said that day will carry their real weight from now on. You'll understand little by little that in this academy cooking really is everything!' Both you and Satoshi thought.

As you finished cleaning, the three of you left the room. Satoshi went to the right to his room and you and Soma went to the stairs to go up to your rooms. "Man it really has been a crazy day," You say and Soma nods, "I wonder what tomorrow has to offer."

The two of you arrive at your rooms that are side by side. You both give each other a quick goodnight and a wave before heading into your rooms. Once you enter you change into your pyjamas and flop into bed. You look up at the ceiling while hugging a pillow thinking about the day 'It really was a good first day' You smile 'Tons of cute people'. You realize your last thought and bury your head in the pillow and roll side to side trying to get the thought out of your head. You didn't realize the edge of the bed was that close and you end up rolling off "Ouch" you grumble rubbing your head trying to get your head to feel better.

Note: Hey, thanks for reading, I really appreciate it! Just a quick note about people's names in the story, I've realized that I've been going back and forth a bit from how they say it in the manga and the anime (Manga has them calling each other by the last names and the anime has them calling each other by their first names with some exceptions) sorry about that lol. From here I'll probably just continue using the names they use in the anime (First names + some exceptions). Hope you have a great day! :)
