Chapter 20: Gone and Isle

While Ben and Mal are on their date. I decide to finally spend some time with just me and Carlos. We decide it is best to just hang out in my room and lock the door so nobody can interrupt us.

"Finally, I get a moment to relax," I tell Carlos as I fall onto the floor.

"Is it really that bad?" Carlos says as he sits next to me. I look up at him and my eyes are glowing. "I say it is. I am right here tell me what has been going on. I feel like I haven't talked to you in weeks."

"You talked to me yesterday." I move and Carlos puts my head in his lap and starts playing with my hair.

"Feels like weeks since we had a real conversation."

"I am sorry all the new things we had to do since Ben became King is wearing me out."

"It will get easier. I am always here."

"I know thank you for that. I love that you are my best friend. I don't know what I would do without you."

"I am not going anywhere." Ben busts in from his side of the room.

"Sorry your door was locked I can come back," Ben says leaving.

"It is okay Ben do you need something?" I say getting up.

"Yes, I need to talk to you," Ben says.

"I take that as my cue to leave," Carlos says getting up.

"You sure? I can come back later," Ben says.

"No, it is fine," Carlos says. I run up and hug him telling him "Text me." He nods his head and leaves. Ben drags me to our office.

"So, tell me what is up?" I say.

"Mal has been lying to me and keeping secrets." Ben said with his head in his hands.

"Ben it will be alright. It is just getting to her."

"She was even using magic."

"Ben, I use magic almost every day."

"But you have to, or it will build up and explode."

"Yes. Just give her some time. It is not easy coming from the Isle then being bombarded with reporters."

"Thanks Lily I will."

"Here let's get some work down for Cotillion," I said as I sat down at my desk. 10 minutes later I hear Evie.

"Ben? Lily?" Evie says.

"Evie. We are in here," I tell her.

"Mal's gone back to the Isle. Ben... Lily..." Evie says. Evie hands Ben a note and then show me. "Ben," Evie says as she holds up my cousin's ring.

"This is my fault. This is my fault. I-I blew it. She'd been under so much pressure lately, and instead of being understanding, I just went all Beast on her. I have go there and apologize. I have to go there and--and beg her to come back," Ben says.

"Ben, you'll never find her," I tell him.

"-I—" Ben stutters.

"You need to know how the Isle and how it works and... you have to take me with you," Evie says.

"Me too," I say.

"Yes! Uh are you sure? Lily you are staying here," Ben says.

"You are not leaving me I am going, or I will freeze you and just I will go," I say with snow forming in my hand.

"Fine then. I guess I can't stop you," Ben says. I shake my head.

"Yeah. She is my best friend and we'll bring the boys too, because there's safety in numbers, and none of us is really too popular over there right now," Evie says. "But let's get two things straight. You two have to promise me that I won't get stuck there again."
