Several weeks had gone by and Ahmanet became used to the new position in the palace. Other Medjay would come to her if there was a problem or if they needed assistance with a new recruit, but for the most part nothing had changed besides following the princess around the palace. They seemed to be comfortable around each other now , to be able to have conversations in between following Nefertiti's daily routine. It mostly consisted of the princess having meals with the pharaoh and other members of the royal court, along with Imhotep the high priest and keeper of the dead. He made sure that all things dealing with people passing on to the after life went according to plan, based on how they lived their lives before They died. Then there was Anc Su Namun'. The pharaohs mistress and future wife, no one but the pharaoh was aloud to touch her. She was pretty but Ahmanet thought the princess was more beautiful. Based off the distasteful look the princess gives her, she's not happy to see her father with her and from the smug smirks Anc Su Namun throws her way she's well aware of the dislike. After breakfast they both walk around the palace before the princess does her other daily routines.
"Why don't you like her?" Ahmanet asked curiously as they walked the palace grounds. Nefertiti looked at her and frowned before looking away.
"Who says I don't?" She replied back nonchalantly. Ahmanet smiled and chuckled ,making Nefertiti glance at her again.
"It's obvious the way you look at her , and the way you tense up like an asp waiting to strike its prey." Ahmanet explained.
"You know it's rude to compare your princess to a deadly snake, almost insulting." Nefertiti said haughtily staring at the woman who had become her closest friend and confidant. Ahmanet smiled and bowed.
"Please forgive me my princess you're much more graceful and beautiful than any asp." She apologized and Nefertiti nodded.
"That's better. Besides she would be the asp not me." Nefertiti said before continuing. "I don't trust her. She has no love for my father and she's sneaky. I'll never accept her as my step mother." She finished and Ahmanet was quiet as she thought about that.
"I can see that. In my opinion you would make a better Queen than she will ever be." Ahmanet replied and the princess looked at her and paused. Like many times before, she regarded the Medjay curiously. She always made Nefertiti feel nervous and unsure. Almost jittery inside.
Her heart always skips beats when the Medjay gave her compliments or watched her closely When she talked to other members of the court . Nefertiti had a feeling she knew what that meant on her end, but this was her bodyguard.
She couldn't possibly have feelings for her. Not to mention Ahmanet was serous about her job and was unbelievably loyal to her father.
"We should hurry. I have to start training." Nefertiti said quickly, changing the subject so she didn't reveal to the warrior how conflicted she felt .
"Of course princess." Ahmanet nodded and held her arm out waiting. Nefertiti smiled slightly as she' placed her hand on the Medjay's arm and they continued to the training grounds.
************************************
Ahmanet watched Nefertiti carefully as she twirled the two golden daggers around in her hands quickly as she stepped into various fighting poses. Ahmanet was impressed by how well she was with her form. Though there was one thing she was doing wrong.
"Your arm should be higher and your grip a little tighter." Ahmanet said and Nefertiti stoped and looked at her.
"What?" She asked as she lowered her arms to her sides. Ahmanet stepped closer to her and held out her hand. "If I may?" She asked staring at her and the princess handed her daggers out to her.
Ahmanet sheathed her sword to her waist before demonstrating with the daggers. "If you hold it higher and grip it more firmly, it'll be more natural." She told her , putting the two daggers back in the princess's hands and positioned her arms the way they was supposed to be at before stepping back.
Nefertiti held the position before stepping into another stance. "Huh?" Nefertiti said as she smiled to herself as she looked at the daggers before looking over at Ahmanet.
"That does feel better. How do you know that?" She asked her and Ahmanet shifted her weight and shrugged.
"I've trained myself to use all kinds of weapons. So trust me, I know what I'm doing." She answered and Nefertiti walked around her thinking.
"I see. It makes sense, that you became the leader of the Medjay, not to mention the only woman to even become one of the pharaohs personal Medjay." She finished coming face to face the Medjay again. Ahmanet shifted her weight again nervously as the princess watched her closely but nodded.
"If you want I could show you a few things." She offered kindly. Nefertiti tilted her head in wonder before replying. "Funny I was gonna ask that. As you know I'm to protect the bracelet of Anubis. In two months time, I'm to have a dual against Anc Su Namun to prove I'm ready to take on that responsibility." She explained frowning as she looked at the daggers as she spoke. "She isn't just chosen to be my father's mistress for no reason. She's trained in combat just like I am. The solider who trained her was one of the best I heard...." she replied trailing in thought before she looked up at Ahmanet. "Would you be willing to train me?" She asked her and Ahmanet paused ,shocked by the question before replying.
"It would be my pleasure princess." She answered and bowed her head respectfully.
Nefertiti smiled widely . "Great. I look forward to learning from you."
