Sam sat on the couch in her tiny apartment looking through the job vacancy pages in the paper.  After meeting the A-team the previous day she had decided that it was time to start living her life and that meant getting a job.  All thoughts of joining the Air Force had now gone.  Her main reason for joining up was to make her father proud and without him, what was the point.  She kept circling possible jobs and was silently relieved when the phone rang and she could stop.

"Samantha Martin."

"Is that Samantha Martin, daughter of Captain Douglas Martin" asked a male voice.

"Yes" sighed Sam sadly.

"This is Captain Andrews.  I shared an office with your father."

Sam knew what was coming.  She had expected this call for a while.  "You want me to come and collect his things, don't you?"

Captain Andrews seemed surprised.  "How did you know?  Anyway it has been a month Miss Martin but we really need to start using his office again.  Is there any chance you could come down here this morning?"

Sam took the newspaper off her lap and threw it into the trash can beside the couch.  Job hunting would have to wait until tomorrow.  "Give me an hour and I'll be there."

"I'll meet you at the gate" replied the Captain as he hung up the phone.

Sam stood up and looked at herself in the mirror.  Using her brush she quickly put her hair back in a ponytail and then pulled her boots on.  Grabbing her keys she looked at the flying jacket hanging by the front door.  Being July it was too hot for that but she still ran her hand down it before grabbing her purse and heading out.

As she waited at a stop light she grabbed the first cassette she could find from the glove box and pushed it into her stereo.  It had been a while since she had listened to music as she drove but today she felt like it again.  When the sound of Frank Sinatra came through the speakers she couldn't help laughing. Frank Sinatra had been one of her father's favourites.  "So you decided to come with me Dad?  Well just behave yourself.  These Air Force guys are a serious bunch you know."

She had been driving for about half an hour when Sam's thoughts turned to the A-team.  She couldn't believe that Murdock was a member of the team or that he hadn't told her.  However everything she had ever read about them only listed the three of them as wanted men.  Murdock's name was never mentioned.  'He really must be their secret weapon' she thought to herself.  A smile crept across her face.  Yesterday morning she had felt so alone but now she had four friends and not just any friends.  She was friends with the freaking A-team.

Seeing the Air Force Base in the distance Sam turned off her music and drove up to the guard on duty.  "Samantha Martin.  I'm expected."  She knew the protocol and took out her drivers licence so they could check it.

The young guard on the gate seemed happy and handed it back to her.  "Yes Miss Martin.  Please go through the gates and park up on your left.  Captain Andrews is on his way to meet you."

Sam looked at the guard.  He was quite cute really and under other circumstances she might have been tempted to ask him out but she wasn't here for that.  Instead she just smiled at him.  "Thanks."  He smiled back at her and lifted the barrier so she could pass through.

She parked her station wagon and got out of the hot car into the cooler fresh air.  It was only a few minutes later that someone came marching over towards her.  "Miss Martin?"  He held out his hand to her.

"Samantha please" replied Sam as she shook his hand.  "You must be Captain Andrews?"

He nodded at her.  "Yes I am.  Now could you please put this visitor badge on and we can head inside."  He handed her a Visitor pass and she hung it around her neck.  Deep in her heart Sam knew that was going to be the only easy thing about this morning.
