Face woke early and smiled at the woman lying in the bed next to him.  At some point in the night she had slipped out of his arms and was lying on her side with her hands up against her chest.  Her hair had fallen out of it's ponytail and was hanging over her face so he gently brushed it back with his fingertips.  Sam mumbled slightly but didn't wake up and he couldn't help smiling.  She really was beautiful.

Feeling a weight on the bed behind him Face rolled over and ended up nose to nose with Storm.  He grinned at her and scratched behind her ear.  "I guess you need to go out" he whispered.  Leaving Sam in bed he put on his robe and let the dog out of the room.  When he got downstairs he went to the kitchen and let the dog out into the garden.  While waiting for her to finish what she was doing he put the coffee machine on and grabbed two mugs.  It was far too early for anyone to be up yet so he didn't have to worry about anyone coming in.  He fetched a tray and put two glasses of juice on it.  After letting Storm back in he filled the two coffee mugs and put them on the tray too.  With Storm by his side he went back up the stairs and returned to his room.  The dog lay down on the floor beside Sam's duffel bags while Face put the tray on the nightstand then he closed his door again.  Shrugging off his robe he quickly climbed back into bed.

"Where have you been" asked Sam without opening her eyes.

Face rolled onto his side so he was facing her.  "Storm needed a bathroom break" he chuckled.

Sam opened her eyes and smiled at Face.  "And you did that for me?  Thank you Temp."

He propped himself up on his arm and grinned at her.  "You looked too peaceful to wake."

"Flatterer" chuckled Sam.  She rolled onto her back and stretched.  "Do I smell coffee?"

"And I thought Storm was the one with the powerful nose" laughed Face.  "Yes I brought coffee back with me."

"Ooo gimme gimme" laughed Sam as she sat up in the bed. Face rolled his eyes and sat up next to her.  He handed her a mug and then took his own. "I'll say this for you Peck, you make damn good coffee."

"I'll take that compliment.  Thank you."

Sam noticed the silk pyjamas he was wearing.  "Silk?  Really?"

Face looked hurt.  "Hey this is my one luxury."

She put her hand on his arm.  "I'm sorry.  I'm just surprised."

"This from the woman who slept in her clothes last night" laughed Face.

Sam looked down at her crumpled shirt.  "Oh yeah.  In my defence it was very late and I was tired."

"So can I ask why the change of heart?  I was convinced that I would never see you again and then you turn up in my room in the early hours of the morning."

Sam sipped her coffee.  "A lot happened this week and it's going to take a bit of time to explain it but I promise that by the end of the day everything will become clear."

Face looked confused.  "So you're not going to tell me now?"

Sam put her mug on the nightstand and turned to look at him.  "I know I'm asking a lot Temp but please don't make me tell you now.  I just want to spend a bit of time with you before I have to go and face everyone."

He sighed and smiled at her.  "Okay.  But I want to know by the end of the day."

"Temp you will do" she chuckled.  "Now what has happened here while I've been gone?"

"Trixy moved into Murdock's room" grinned Face.  "They're both really happy."

Even though he was smiling Sam could sense the sadness in his voice.  "You wish that could have been us, don't you?"
