Sam walked around the stalls looking at all the horses.  She didn't have a clue what she was looking for.  "George help me" she said linking her arm through his.

He patted her hand and smiled.  "Alright.  Well you don't want anything too wild.  Do you have any preference what colour you want?"

Sam leaned her head against his shoulder like she used to do with her father when they walked together.  "Not really.  I just want something I can ride safely."

George led her to one of the stalls.  "What about this dapple grey one?  She seems quite placid."

They both got closer to the stall to take a better look.  Sam gently stroked the horse's nose and looked at her eyes.  "She seems sad."

George sighed.  "Yes that's the down side to horse sales.  She's probably got a friend here somewhere."

Sam noted down the horse's number so she could bid on her.  "That's so sad" she said looking around.  "I wish I knew which one it was."  They both had to step back out of the way as a large black stallion was walked past them and put in another stall further along.  As it went past the grey whinnied and the black tried to go to her but was pulled away.

"There's your answer" said George as they went down to look at the Stallion.  He was pacing about in the stall with a wild look in his eye.  "He's a bit of a wild one.  They're going to have trouble finding a buyer for him."

"No they're not" said Sam making a note of his number.

"Sam you can't ride him.  He needs to calm down a lot first."

Sam looked at George.  "I'm going for both of them George.  I can ride the grey and work on the black one."

George laughed.  "So your heart is making decisions now?"

Sam grinned at him.  "Well a friend of mine did say that I should get two horses so he could ride with me.  All I have to do is calm the black down before he arrives."

The sound of a bell ringing made George look up.  "Well I hope it works out for you but come on.  The sale is about to start."

As they walked past the grey again Sam couldn't help stroking her nose.  "I'm going to do my best for you but how about you play up a bit so I can get a good deal?"

George helped Sam to close up and lock the tailgate on the horsebox and then got into the passenger side of her truck with Storm.  When Sam got in they both looked at each other and laughed.  "Well if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes I wouldn't have believed it" sniggered George.  "That grey went from calm and placid to a raving lunatic in a heartbeat.  You practically stole her from them."

Sam started the engine of the truck and began to move.  "And the black too.  He was insane.  At one point I thought they were going to pay me to take him away."

"Well sweetheart I think you got two great horses there.  Now take us back and I'll check them over properly" smiled George as he made a fuss of Storm.

"George I owe you so much.  Thank you for bringing me today."

"You're welcome Sam" smiled George.

The two of them chatted together over the long drive back and it helped to pass the time more quickly.  After only an hour and a half they were driving towards Sam's stable block.  "I need to make up the other stable before we let them out.  I'm thinking that I'll put them side by side so they can see each other over the wall."

"After seeing how attached they are to each other I would say that's a great idea."

Both Sam and George opened the back of the horsebox to give them some fresh air and then Sam went into the stables to get everything ready.
