I woke up the next day feeling better. It was day two of school, so I already got through the hardest part. I knew that. But I was still worried about Hannah and Luke. I knew Luke cared about me, but Hannah was different. The exact opposite actually. If I showed up at school today and tried to talk to Luke, there was no doubt in my mind that I would wind up with a black eye by the end of the day. Everyone bows down to her, and there no way anyone would turn down a request from her, even if it meant they had to punch a new girl in the face without any reason given.
I eventually sat up and go out of bed, then grabbed a towel from my small cabinet and walked to my bathroom.
I had to speed past my mirror, because I couldn’t tolerate looking at myself before my shower. I have a tendency to look like a drowned rat in the morning, and that’s when I don’t fall asleep with my makeup on. I couldn’t come close to how I probably looked right now.
I quickly turned on the shower to warm up while I stripped my t-shirt and pajama pants. After I determined the water was warm enough, I hopped in. I then grabbed my apple smelling shampoo, pouring some in my hands then lathering it in my hair. I then proceeded to do the same with my conditioner.
After finishing my shower, I hopped out and dried off. I decided on a messy bun for my hair today, so I put on my robe and proceeded back to my bedroom to dry my hair. What seemed like days later, my hair was finally dry enough to be put up. I tried multiple times to make my bun look how I wanted, but I eventually gave up and decided to pick my clothes out first.
I decided on a simple red sweater and some dark jeans with a pair of white converse, which I wore with my typical brown bag. I quickly put on my clothes and went back to mirror to make another attempt at my hair.
Eventually I successfully tied my hair into the the desirable look I had wanted, so I proceeded to my makeup. At this point in my morning, I was pretty done with making myself look nice, so I added some simple mascara and went on my way.
I walked downstairs, which was luckily clear of any other family members, which I was still trying to avoid. Although I had decided that Arizona was fine to stay in, I was still upset that my dad had the nerve to hide it from me. He could have warned me that “Hey, we might be shipping Mason home to Maine, so it will just be you and me kiddo!” or something like that. The whole situation wasn’t ideal to be completely honest.
I grabbed a bagel and spread some cream cheese on it, then grabbed my keys and started out the door.
“I’m leaving for school!” I yelled, then shut the door and headed to my car.
After the short drive to school, I sat in my car and mentally prepared myself of what was to come.
I could just leave, I thought. There’s still time.
I came to grips that there’s no way around this, and that I’d have to deal with it no matter what, so I got out of my car and walked toward the entrance of the one place I didn’t want to be right now.
Right in their typical spots, sat all the groups I had known so quickly. This time when entering the school, I kept my head down and walked swiftly, to try to avoid any problems. That was, until someone called my name.
