Her voice breaks a little. "Catra?"
Everything happened so quickly. One minute she's fine, the next she's holding Catra close to her, whispered and crying over and over that she was sorry. So sorry. That she loved her. And she didn't mean it.
Catra was alive, just barely. She'd try to talk, but Adora would shush her, worried that if she kept talking she'd run out of blood. Catra was going in and out, her eyes closing every once a while. "Catra, please stay awake."
*
Catra could hear Adora's voice. She could hear her pleading for her to stay awake, apologizing over and over.
But Catra knew that wasn't her Adora.
Or any Adora at that.
Catra felt a little relief. Which was a bit funny to her. But if she was going to die, at least she'd die in her potential lover's arms. She missed her. So much.
She looked at Adora. Adora was herself again. Minutes ago, as She-Ra, she was pained. Adora's usual glow was gone, replaced with a terrifying red. Her eyes were red, her outfit was red, her veins even looked red. Catra had contemplated if Adora was even in there.
But when she heard Adora's voice, more so the panic in it, she knew she had to do something. Even if it killed her.
"I love you." she breathed out before falling into a pit of unconsciousness.

"Catra! No wake up!"
This was a new level of hurt and guilt for the blonde. She had done this.
The next Adora knows, Glimmer has returned. Assumingly after defeating Shadow Weaver. She rushed to the two. "W-What happened?!"
"I- I don't" Adora struggled to find words. "I didn't m-mean to. She- she moved and." She couldn't finish her sentence without crying.
"We have to get her out of her." Glimmer stated. Adora nodded.

Adora and Glimmer met back with Bow at the spot. And apparently Mara.
Quickly, Mara attended Catra's wounds along with trying to get Adora to stop shaking.
Bow immediately noticed Catra and how Adora was completely covered in blood. Glimmer pulled him aside, filling him in on everything. He was shocked to say the least, but tried his best not to freak out seeing how dead Adora looked at the moment.
"Are the other prisoners okay?" Glimmer asked him. Bow nodded. "They have a special hideout. They're planning to overtake the kingdom since they have their magic back." Glimmer nodded.
"We need to get out of here." Mara said. "I have a place where we can go for now, but we have to hurry. This was much more complex than I thought."
[..]
Adora held Catra the whole ride, covering the brunette with her cape. Mara was able to use her magic to prevent the bleeding, but she couldn't truly do much until they got somewhere. They had been going to Mystacor. They had the best wizards and doctors. With Mara having connections, and the queen being Glimmer's aunt, it made the most since.
When they arrived, Mara took Catra from Adora's arms, that made Adora feel even more empty. Glimmer, Bow and Adora were taken to the queen's castle.
Now, Adora sat in the bathtub. Her slim body was curled into a ball. Small. The way she felt. The blood had all washed away by now, the water was clear.
Adora let herself quietly sob as she sat in the tub.
She sat there quietly staring at the wall in front of her for a pretty long while until she heard a knock. "Adora?"
"Leave me alone, Shimmer." she told the sparkly girl, not wanting to talk to anyone. Glimmer huffed and entered the wash room, resulting in Adora jumping up and covering herself with her arms.
"Do not flatter yourself, I have no interest in looking at you. Plus we're both girls." Glimmer said, rolling her eyes. Adora scoffed, a little offended and untensed herself. "Is she okay?" Adora asked in a low whisper, she couldn't bare the thought if the answer was different.
"She's stable. And with the best healers out there. My father included." Glimmer explained, her expression soft and calm. "She should be okay."
At least that was good news.
"Do you think she hates me?" Adora felt like she was going to cry again, she was so sure she knew the answer. So why did she ask?
"I don't know Catra well, Adora." Glimmer stated. "But I do know.. the whole trip to halfmoon all she talked about was you. Your interests, how you made her interested in life again, how much of an idiot you were. I don't think she could hate you if she tried. She's bonded to you in some way."
"Bonded?" Adora repeated in confusion. Glimmer hummed. "I don't know much about magicats, you should ask Mara about that. But from what I do know, they choose mates in their late teen years or early 20s. Mates are like soulmates in a way. Catra's 19, it would make sense if she chose you unconsciously."
"I really messed up, didn't I?" Adora found herself sinking further in the water. Glimmer sighed as she sat down on a small stool next to the tub. "While you shouldn't have listened to Shadow Weaver's tricks, it was not your fault."
That was not as comforting as Adora would have hoped.
"Anyway." Glimmer stated, "I'm here to tell you Mara requests your presence." Glimmer gave an small nod before exiting the washroom.
[..]
"You wished to speak with me?" Adora asked, entering the castle library. Mara nodded. "We need to talk."
Adora sighed as she sat down at the table across from Mara. She knew she had to ask, but she was too scared to.
"You're probably wondering what happened and why it happened." Mara said. "I didn't know you could read minds." Adora returned. "Can we get this over with so I can go back to my plan?"
"What's you plan? To lie in your room guilty replaying every moment of the incident over and over until you pass out from not eating?"
Shit. She had forgotten how well Mara knew her.
"Maybe.." She responded, looking away.
"Adora, I'm here to tell you the truth. So shut your mouth and stop being annoying."
Adora let out a breath, was she even ready to hear 'the truth'?
Ready as she'll ever be she supposes.
"Okay... I'm ready."
