This wasn't how it was supposed to go.

The team was supposed to gather intel on the earth kingdom's army and the general, but they were caught. Now, the four were fighting for their life's against the troops, slowly losing ground.

"We need to go to the ship, now!" Mako grunted then bent another fireball towards the crowd.

"Oh really? I thought this was a carnival show- duh!" Korra exclaimed. She scanned her surroundings, trying to find an opening but to no avail.

The Avatar cursed under her breath. She soon looked up and saw a few buildings above her, with no troops on them. That was the only way out.

Mako soon caught on to what Korra was looking at, realizing her idea. He grabbed Bolin by the collar and grabbed Asami by the hand, leading them closer to Korra.

The tan girl soon started to make a cyclone under their feet, while wrapping her arm around Asami and Mako. She soon boosted out of the swarm of enemies and landed on a rooftop, where the troops couldn't follow them up there.

Asami kept her arm wrapped around Korra's waist, not wanting to let go. She had a bad feeling about this whole mission and the way things were going. She drew a shaky breath and looked at Korra. She looked stressed like she was carrying the weight of the world on her back.

Well, she technically was, but it still hurt Asami seeing Korra like this. It felt like someone was grabbing her heart and squeezing it, not wanting to let go. She hated it. She wished that she wasn't the Avatar, risking her life every day like this.

"Uh, Korra? We got company."

Asami turned to look at what Mako was referring to and saw the Earth Kingdom general herself.

Kuvira.

Korra stepped away from her best friend, instantly regretting moving away from Asami. She walked forward to face her enemy, her fist balled and her shoulders squared.

"I'm not asking you again to stand down, Avatar," She threatened. "Or I'll kill you where you stand."

Korra scoffed. "I'm not standing down until you surrender."

She turned to the others. "Start heading towards the ship, I'll meet you there."

Mako and Bolin opened their mouths to say something but decided not to argue back. They soon started to head to the ship, with Asami walking behind them. She glanced back at Korra, her heart full of pain. She walked over to the Avatar and put a hand on her shoulder.

"Be safe, okay?" She said, her voice quivering. Korra smiled at her. "I will be. You be safe too."

Asami let go of her shoulder and ran off to catch up with Mako and Bolin, leaving Korra alone with Kuvira.

The Earth General smiled. "Fine, have it your way." She sent a shard of metal towards her, with the Avatar deflecting it. Korra sent a gust of wind towards her enemy, making her fall backward.

Kuvira quickly got back up, soon sending multiple metal pieces towards her, slowly gaining ground on the Avatar. Korra successfully dodged it all and got ready to earth bend a boulder at her enemy, until she was beat to it, getting hit with one and was sent off the rooftop, landing on the ground below her.

Korra coughed and slowly got up, having her breath knocked out of her and having a dull pain in the lower part of her back. She saw that a few troops were surrounding the street. She started running in the direction that her friends ran towards. She soon saw them at the ship getting ready to leave and smiled. They were safe. She kept her promise. They can go home. They can continue to plan against Kuvira but she knew things would be okay. She can finally tell Asami how she feels-

She stopped dead in her tracks. A sharp pain shot through her abdomen. She looked down and saw a shard of metal, sticking through her body, blood soaking her clothes.

Korra wasn't ready to die just yet. She didn't want to go out like this. She continued walking towards the ship, her ears ringing and her vision starting to blur. She saw Asami run towards her and ended up catching her as she collapsed.

She saw her lips moving, tears running down her face as she held her, but she couldn't hear her. Tears soon started to form in Korra's eyes, with tears falling down her face as soon as she saw Asami crying.

"Korra...Stay with me." Asami's voice was muffled as she continued to take her to the ship.

Her vision soon started to darken. "A-Asami," Korra muttered. The engineer laid her down on her cot, with Mako and Bolin running around to find the first aid or anything that would help Korra.

"You can't leave just yet. It isn't your time," her voice cracked as tears continued to flow. "Please, just hang on."

Korra reached a shaky hand out towards Asami, which she accepted.

"You know, I was wanting to tell you something," she confessed.

The engineer squeezed Korra's hand. "What is it?" She replied, her voice soft but full of sadness.

"I-," She drew a shaky breath. "I love you."

Asami smiled, as she leaned in and kissed the Avatar. Her lips were soft, much better than their ex. Korra smiled weakly into the kiss. She felt herself slipping away in the kiss but as soon as the moment happened, it soon ended, with Asami pulling away and smiling sadly at her Avatar.

Mako and Bolin soon ran back into the room, removing the metal and trying to stop the heavy bleeding, but there was no hope. Korra's face was pale, her breathing slowed with her eyes almost closed.

"Come on, this isn't your time," Mako grunted. Asami continued holding her hand. "Korra, please," she pleaded. "I don't want to lose you."

Korra smiled weakly at her. "I'll always be with you," her grip around Asami's hand loosened. "Be strong for me, take care of Naga. I love you."

Her eyes closed for the last time, her smile fading as she took her final breath.

The room was silent. Mako got up and stormed out of the room, followed by the sound of someone punching a wall.

Bolin sat there, staring at the floor, avoiding everyone's eyes. He soon stood and walked out, closing the door behind him, leaving Asami with Korra's body.

Asami broke down, holding the Avatar's lifeless form, pleading for her to come back.

The air grew thick as the news finally settled in.

The Avatar was dead.

And the world around them would change forever.
