(TW for terminal disease and angst)

"This can't be happening."

Asami was pacing the hospital room, her hands ruffled in her hair. She looked stressed and tired, with dark circles under her eyes, her hair was messy and her body wanted to just give out and scream.

"Asami, please," Opal quivered. Her eyes were filled with tears, with Bolin holding her trying to provide some sort of comfort.

"This can't happen," Asami spat out. "I'm not allowing this to happen."

The room was silent. There was no hope. She knew it. Everyone knew it.

Did they even want to accept it?

The woman was their best friend. Someone they cared for. Someone they loved.

But when the news broke, it broke a part of everyone.

Mako works himself everyday until he falls asleep at the desk. Opal and Bolin decided to go to therapy to help with it. Her parents were shattered. Everytime the group sees them, you can see the bags under their eyes. Their eyes bloodshot from crying and staying up all night.

Asami, on the other hand, couldn't believe it.

Ever since Korra was hospitalized, she started drinking and stopped eating. Her days were filled with misery. The house they lived in together, which was once filled with love and laughter, now filled with despair and slience.

They had enough time to complete Korras bucketlist. Get married, go skiing, fall asleep under the stars with Asami and even the small things like donating and volunteering.

Even then, one thing that could never been completed was growing old with her wife.

And that destroyed her the most.

Korra's father, Tonraq, approached Asami and embraced her. "I'm so glad you made my daughter happy." Tears swelled in his eyes. "I know she's grateful to have you."

Her arms stayed motionless then slowly wrapped around her father-in-law, burying her face into his shoulder and sobbed. Her cries echoed throughout the room, making Senna embrace the two, with tears falling down her face.

It isn't fair.

It never was fair.

Korra's doctor entered the room, with documents in his hands with a grim look shadowing his face.

Asami lifted her head and met his gaze.

"Time of death, 3:41am."
-----------
The funeral was decorated in blue and black with half of the city attending.

Korra was known for helping and loving others. She was inspiring to kids and motivation for adults. No one else could change people like that.

Mako, Bolin, and Opal all arrives together, leaning on each other emotionally, as none of them were ready to say goodbye.

Tonraq and Senna was devasted. Their whole personality changed and the light in their eyes that once shined so bright was gone in matter of seconds.

Asami was destroyed. Her wife, who she knew for fifteen years was gone in the matter of seconds. Everything in her being was screaming for Korra to come back, but it would be impossible.

She barely slept anymore. She missed the feeling of warmth from her love and missed hearing her talk about her day, rather it was something embarrassing that happened or something small like a leaf fell on her head and she never noticed until she went to work.

When she got home, the house was dead. It was a mess, with sorrow and pain filling the room everywhere she went into.

She decided to try and distract herself with work, making a new prototype. When she opened her sketchbook, a note fell out. She received it and opened it, to see Korra's handwriting.

My Love,

By the time you see this, I'm going to be gone and I want you to continue being yourself, fighting some weirdos about how machines ACTUALLY work and prove them wrong.

I never thought I'd see the day that I would leave this world without you. It's destroying me watching you at my bedside and being supportive, knowing that this won't end the way we want it to.

I'm so happy I met you and the gang, getting married to you was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I don't want you to lose yourself because of me.

You were an experience of a lifetime and I'm so sorry I have to leave like this. Maybe in another universe will we die side by side and happily. I hope to see you again one day.

Think of Me Once in Awhile, Take Care.

Love,
Korra

Asami held the note to her chest, her emotions taking over as she has to continue for Korra's sake.

For her.
Her one and only.
