Shutting your book with an exasperated sigh, you smile sheepishly as you were met with multiple glares and a few quiet "shhh's" from the students sitting near you in the silent library.
Cho, your close friend who had accompanied you to the library so you could both study, looked up at you through her silky bangs. A confused expression written across her face.
You mouth to her 'my detention' and she nods, giving you a smile and going back to writing.

Professor Snape had given you detention in period 5 today. It wasn't your fault you'd dropped a vile, but the man was not having it.
You remembered his face when you'd dropped it, anger etched into his features as he scolded you, the entirety of your class staring whilst some quietly giggled.
He had ordered you to come to his classroom at 7:00pm sharp, and you found yourself shoving all of your books into your bag with haste as you scurried out of the library, with only five minutes to spare.
You couldn't understand for the life of you why you were so intent on not keeping him waiting. If it were any other professor, you would've taken your sweet time getting there. But he was different. That ever so intimidating demeanour of his unsettled you, and you did not want to give him another reason to be angry with you.

Rushing through the long, empty corridors, you began getting out of breath. And by the time you had finally reached the dungeons, you were a hot mess.
You recollected yourself, smoothing out your uniform that you had been to lazy to change out of earlier, and running a hand through your messy hair.
Checking the time on your watch, you gave a triumphant smile, it had just hit seven.
Taking in a deep breath, you knocked lightly on the large wooden door.

It opened almost instantly, and you were face to face with that same man who had shouted at you just hours before.
His dark eyes assessed you, taking in your still somewhat disheveled appearance as he hid a smirk, it was obvious to him that you had rushed to get here.
Stepping aside, Snape tilted his head sharply, signalling you to enter.
You awkwardly made your way past him and into the dimly lit room, the smell of potions and parchment filling your senses immediately.
You turned around, watching your professor shut the door as he looked up at the clock on the wall. A scowl made its way onto his face when he realised you weren't late, and you laughed quietly from the satisfaction of him not being able to lecture you yet again.
He turned his head quickly to look at you, and you hid your laugh with a cough. Your usually bold personality always seemed to fade when you were anywhere near him.

He sighed making his way to his desk at the front of the room, sitting down in his chair. Pointing towards the back of the classroom, he spoke a
"for your detention, you will be cleaning the storage room. I want the shelves completely organised, and the floor swept. Understood?" his voice holding a bored tone.
Your gaze followed the direction in which he was pointing, and you took note of the door at the back of the room.
"Yes" you mumbled, beginning to walk there.
"Excuse me?" he hissed. You turned back around, an angry expression in your professors face.
You quickly caught on to what had bothered him, and you fought and eye roll.
"Yes, sir" you repeated yourself, emphasising the 'sir'.
His eyes narrowed, but you refused to look away, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of dominating you.
Finally, he was the one to break the eye contact from across the room as he looked down at his stack of parchment, going back to writing.
You smirked as you turned back around, walking into the storage room.
You had never been in there. It was a rather cramped room, with not much light apart from a single lightbulb hanging from the middle of the ceiling. A ladder was propped up against a row of shelves opposite you. Oh boy was he right. The shelves really were a mess. Merlin, you'd be here for hours.
You groaned quietly, grabbing a brush next to you as you got on your hands and knees, starting to sweep the floor.
