A Searing Burst of Light

Alayah's POV

I was running. Running to get on that damned skiff. How stupid could she be, getting her whole unit put on that skiff, I get that Mal is on it but why would she risk her safety. It's about 80% safe as long as no one is an idiot and lights a lantern, but no my sister had to be an idiot.

After about ten minutes of running through the camp/base I made it to the skiff, and just in time, I go on just as they were preparing to close the gate. I then saw my sister, Alina , and I made my way over to her. I saw Mal glaring at me as if telling me to get off the skiff, which he probably was and I couldn't help but snicker at his protective nature.

As the skiff started moving I saw that Alina's scarf/neck tie flew off and I attempted to grab it then I saw who I was assuming was then general and it seemed he was looking directly at me. Before I could look anymore the skiff was suddenly in the fold.

We had soon passed the first marker "How many more are there" I asked the Inferni she then answered with a simple 'thirty-seven'. People started to freak out hearing the Volcra growling in the distance, Mal and other people cocked their guns ready to shoot.

There was an idiot put on this skiff. He lit a lantern because the blue light went out and that's how we got attacked. I grabbed the gun I kept in my waistband and started shooting at the volcra but it didn't work people still got dragged to their deaths. 

One of the volcra grabbed Mal and Alina ran over to him as I kept shooting the volcra in attempt to keep them both safe but then I felt a sharp pain in my back and something exploded in me before I passed out.
