She opened the bottle of medicine that would make her sleep for the entire day, intending to wait for him to arrive in that state.
As he arrived and saw her lying there, he gently held her face. "You're still so beautiful and warm," he whispered, "but you’re lying here like this." His voice trembled. "Why must you die like this?" He sat on the floor beside her, took out a bottle of poison, and opened it. "I won’t let you leave alone. I’m going to go with you," he said, bringing the bottle to his lips, when suddenly, someone took it from his grasp.
He turned and saw her, now sitting up on the bed. She quickly rose to face him.
"You have a destined lover besides me," she said softly, turning her gaze to the girl sitting behind him.
He spun around, and there she was—the girl he'd forgotten, looking at them with silent understanding. Memories of her started flooding back, piecing together answers he didn’t realize he’d been searching for.
He looked back at the woman in front of him, confused, yet with pleading eyes. She gave him a gentle smile. "You have to live and marry that person," she said, her words drawing him back to a conversation they’d once had—about the life he envisioned with someone else. And now, that very girl sat behind him.
He struggled with the weight of it all, staring at her. She gave him one last smile. "Sayonara," she whispered.
With that, she took the poison from his hand and drank it, her eyes slowly beginning to close as her body weakened.
He watched, helpless, as life slipped from her eyes. Memories flashed through his mind—the times he’d made her cry, the moments he’d taken for granted. Regret filled him as he whispered her name, "Tzuyu," before he knelt beside her, cradling her in his arms.
"I’m so sorry," he murmured, holding her close, unable to look away from her serene face. Finally, with a resolve born of his grief, he drew a knife from his pocket. "Let’s meet in heaven," he said softly, his last words before he plunged the knife into his chest, choosing to follow her, even in death.
