Walking into the police station I look around with a sigh. I can't believe someone would break into my house and completely trash it. Why would someone even do it? Who hates me so much that they decide to hurt me in the worst possible way.
Walking over to the desk I watch as the officer types away at his computer. "Excuse me. I'm here to meet with detective Stone." I announce to the man. Looking up from his computer he arches an eyebrow.
"Name please!" he says pausing his fingers.
"Lilith Miller."
"ID, please!" He adds.
Opening up my purse I pull out my ID and hand it to the man. When the police station door opens Alec walks in. Nico got stuck at work and can't get out for an hour so I had Alec accompany me.
I haven't seen him in a while. After that incident, I didn't want to see him. That is until today. Being apart from him made me realize how much I miss my best friend.
"Hey." He frowns walking over to me.
"Hey." Turning away from the desk I open my arms to let him hug me. When his arms wrap around me I hold myself back from breaking down.
"Are you okay?" His eyebrows furrow. I've only told him bits and pieces. That my house was broken into and that I'm staying with someone. Not how bad it was or who I'm staying with.
"Yeah. At least I'm trying to be." Looking up at him I force a smile.
"I can't believe someone would break into your house. Who the fuck would do something like that." Alec clenches his fists.
"I don't know. Hopefully, the officer has information about whoever broke in." Turning back towards the desk I look at the officer.
"Can I go back now?" I question.
Nodding the man hands me back my ID and gets out of his seat. "Please follow me." He says disappearing behind a corner.
Following him my feet tap against the floor echoing through the quiet hallway.
Once we reach a room, he opens it revealing the detective who questioned me a week ago. Detective Stone looks up from his papers and smiles at me. "Ms. Miller! Come on in." He motions for Alec and me to sit in the chairs across from his desk.
His desk is a dark brown color with black heels. There's paperwork scattered everywhere on his desk. A big mac computer stands at the center with a small desk lamp clamped to the edge.
"So last week your house was broken into. There was a lot of evidence we could gather in the big mess." He says taking a cigarette out of his pocket and putting it into his mouth. "Unfortunately, it will not be simple work for us. The person wore gloves. There isn't a single piece of fingerprint on anything." The detective suddenly stops and eyes Alec.
"You sure you want him to be here for this? I mean everyone is a potential subject." He raises a brow at Alec.
"Are you accusing me of breaking into my best friend's house and writing whore everywhere on the wall?" Alec crosses his arms.
"It's fine!" My eyes narrow as I try to remember if I told Alec about the writing on the wall. Maybe I did. I was in a rush when I told him about it.
"Okay then." The detective shrugs. "We found a hair follicle also some footprints on the floor covered in ketchup. Since you and that man were there it might mess the footprint up. We will still try it."
"The hair follicle can take up to three weeks just to identify the type. I'll say give me six weeks to figure out who this guy is. Of course, you will need to be protected. We don't know how dangerous he is. I'll have a cop car check up on you 3 times a day." He nods and starts typing on his computer.
"What will I do to my house within the six weeks?" I question. I still haven't been able to clean it and I know it will stink from the rotten food.
"We have our evidence. You may do what you like with it. I recommend you don't stay in that house. Whoever it was may have access to it."
Nodding I fold my arms together and hold them close to my chest. "Is that all sir?" I ask.
"Yes, please come back every Monday of the week. I'll have fresh news then." He stands at the same time Alec and I do.
Holding out his hand I shake it and then take a deep breath.
"Hey." The detective says calmly. Our eyes meet and I frown. "You will be okay." He nods.
I smile a bit before walking out of the office with Alec. Once we reach the front, I see Nico pacing back and forth. He still has his work suit on and his hair is a bit messy.
Once he sees me he rushes over to me. "What are you doing here? I thought you were already at work." I say.
"Well, I needed to come and make sure you were fine. I mean if you want to cry I'm here." He cups my cheeks and presses his forehead against mine.
We both hear Alec clear his throat. I move my head back and look at a frowning Alec.
"So how did it go?" He asks...
"They said they found a hair follicle. It's going to take them six weeks to identify the guy." I sigh. I'll have to be a bother to Nico for six weeks. I just hope he doesn't realize I'm pregnant. It would be better coming from my mouth and not my stomach.
"Well, then I'll have to keep a close eye on you for six weeks until they jail the fucker." He pulls me into his body and wraps his arms around me. Returning the hug I smile.
"When we find the guy, I'll make sure he gets a long jail sentence." Nico peaks my forehead and my eyes flutter closed for a second.
"Good, he deserves it." I smile.
"I'm going to go Lilith. I'll come by the bakery later." Alec rolls his eyes at Nico before walking out of the station...
"I've got to get back to work. I'll be home early today." Nico says letting me out of his embrace.
"Okay. Come by the bakery with Rachel later." Smiling I peck his cheek and turn him towards the door...
