Annabeth was starting to think that this whole trip was just a ploy for Percy and Thalia to drive her crazy.

It was supposed to be a way to fill up her and Percy's spring break, a short road trip touring different monuments and architectural wonders along the west coast. They had gone to Hearst Castle, the Griffith Observatory, Arcosanti, and even the Desert View Watchtower at the Grand Canyon. Percy had prepared plenty of facts and details about each of the monuments to share with her, as she looked on in awe at all of the places she had once only dreamed of going to. While she had already known much of the information - and was probably the reason Percy knew half of it - she still found it endearing that Percy had put in the time to construct a trip for her. She would have to figure out a way to romance him soon.

At least that was what she had thought before. Now she was trying to stop herself from ending his life before their next anniversary.

When Percy mentioned that they would meet Thalia at the Hoover Dam, she had thought nothing of it. She knew so many facts about it – when it was constructed, why it was constructed, how much water it held – but had never actually had the chance to go. That paired with the fact that she missed Thalia created an offer too great to refuse.

She regretted that decision. She should’ve turned Percy and Thalia down, asked them to meet anywhere but the Hoover Dam. She wished that she had Rachel's gift of prophecy if only so she could have avoided this madness.

It had started off innocent enough. After some hugs and reuniting, Percy and Thalia had suggested they visit the “dam snack bar.” Annabeth had scrunched her eyes at their suppressed smiles but had brushed it off.

That had been an hour ago. Annabeth Chase had survived monsters, Tartarus, and two wars, but this would be the death of her.

They had next suggested they go to the “dam gift shop.” Percy had wanted a “dam shirt.” Thalia needed a “dam drink of water.” The two cousins snickered while she stared at them. Surely, they couldn’t be that childish.

But then Percy had dropped a coin and complained about dropping his coin on the “dam floor” while Thalia laughed her head off. Annabeth thought she could see tears coming out of the corners of the huntress' eyes. Two of the most powerful demigods of their generation, a college student and an immortal warrior – of course, they were that childish.

“You’ve been messing with me this entire time!” Annabeth shouted at the two of them, her eyes a brewing storm.

Percy sobered up a little bit, though the smile still hadn't left his lips. “Sorry, Annabeth. It was an inside joke we had from the last time we came here.”

Annabeth’s eyes widened. “What?” she gasped. Percy and Thalia turned to each other, their eyes wide. The Hoover Dam was one of Annabeth’s favorite monuments and neither of them had mentioned their previous trip to her.

“We sort of came here with Zoe and Grover.” Annabeth’s eyes flared and Percy began to talk faster. “It was when you had been kidnapped. We were on our way to find you, and we felt like we owed it to you to at least visit this place.”

Her expression softened, and she brought them into a hug. “I’m mad you guys didn’t tell me, but that’s really sweet.”

She realized she had spoken too soon when she pulled back from her hug to see Percy smirking at Thalia. Oh no. Annabeth's eyes widened and her gut clenched in anticipation of what would come next. “I guess we just didn’t want to spoil the dam surprise by telling you we’ve been here before.”

“Oh, yes,” Thalia chimed in. “We wanted you to create your own dam memories.”

“Take some dam pictures.”

“Buy more dam souvenirs.”

Annabeth threw up her hands in the air. “Gods, I hate you both! I am so tired of these gods damned jokes!” Her eyes widened as she realized what she said.

“I hope you meant dam jokes!” Percy joked before he and Thalia burst into laughter again.

Annabeth face-palmed, before turning on her heels. Her face was beet red but she didn't have it in her to care. “You guys are finding your own way home!” she yelled, not bothering to turn around.

Her threat clearly fell on deaf ears as she heard Thalia exclaim, “I guess we’ll have to find out if this place rents dam cars.”

Dam them both.
