A sudden chill shoots through me as our bodies are enveloped in water.

My eyes shut to keep out the salty stuff only for a small pair of fingers to gently pry one open.

I see her beaming expression, the diffused sunlight dancing across her face, and at the same time realized that my eyes weren't burning or having trouble focusing. I opened the other one and took in the moment.

I was hand in hand with her, slowly drifting deeper into the sea.

Her other hand took my spare, and we began a slow waltz, neither of us able to take our eyes off each other.

She opened her mouth to say something, but only managed to sound out an "A" before she was caught by surprise.

She had drifted into a coral patch and tumbled backwards, dragging me along with her as she landed with a muted thud.

As I lay on top of her, our hands still clasped, our arms bunched up between us, I hear her let out an embarrassed sigh.

I make to tell her it's okay and at once swallow seawater. I had been holding my breath this whole time and begin to strain at the realization.

The girl takes notice of my abrupt fit of agony and looks on distraught, panic starting to take over.

Her face bunches up, struggling to think of a solution, balling up her tiny fists and dully smacking them against her head.

Then she stopped for a moment before looking up at me, a suddenly taking on a determined expression.

As I rode out my last wisp of oxygen, bracing for the end, I felt her palms come to rest on my cheeks before pulling my face forward, her lips locking with mine.

I rode a wave of emotions: shock, confusion, intimacy, and finally enlightenment!

She broke away and I noticed that I was no longer in agony, in fact, I was at peace.

At first, I thought I had died, and this was heaven, but then I realized nothing around me had changed, but I had.

The whole time I was trying to wrap my head around what just happened and how I felt about it when I noticed that I was breathing.

I was pulling oxygen from water as easily as any fish and when I exclaimed in delight, I articulated a clearly audible "Wow!"

I looked back at the girl and saw her looking down, her flush expression still visible even at this depth.

I reach out a hand and caress her cheek. "Thank you."
