So I guess my job is to think of a name? Be cool, all that. Stark lead me up the stair, a hand hovering behind my back.
It's not like I could think of something "oh hey I've liked this name since my childhood, let's go with that!" Because what childhood?
"You're able to walk around, explore a bit. Take someone with you, help you with ideas. Even get to know yourself."
I nod. I doubted he could see that so I said "okay," and my life was completed by awkward silence. Right. Completed. It can end now. Please. I have no idea what to do— despite Stark telling me exactly what to do.
Night came around and I was back in my room, with a notebook and pencil. Rogers had drawn out a ton of different templates for me to scribble over. They were drawn in pen and I was using pencil, so I knew which lines were mine and could erase them without messing up the template.
It almost looked like fire, the bracelets around the wrists and the bands around the ankles.
I decided to basically make the whole things different oranges and yellows to match the fire. I don't have any fire powers or anything, but it's still cool, and if I'm supposed to be helpful, might as well look cool while doing so.
Now for a name.
I'm not good with names, I couldn't even make up a name for a book character if I tried.
An image flashed through my mind. A man, laying on the couch. He looked dead, but no one leaves a dead body on a couch. At least, I hope not.
I resumed my drawing and blocked out the image.
I got down what I think would look fairly cool, moving to the next template to neatly re-trace it.
The suit was tight around the body, but not squeezing. It left nearly no wrinkles. But then again, I'm no Vincent Van Gogh. I'm just... I'm.... Bela, I guess.
There was whispering outside my door-- "my" door, I should say. Loud enough for me to hear but too quiet for me to understand who was talking or what was being said.
I walk over and open the door to reveal Tony and Wanda walking down the hall.
"Hey," I say to catch their attention. Tony turns around and Wanda copies the same but delayed.
"Need something?" Stark asked.
I glance back in the room before my eyes move back to him. "Any chance I could borrow a laptop? Phone, something Google?"
"There's a load downstairs, but I mean, we've got J.A.R.V.I.S. hooked up to every room, all you have to do is talk."
That's honestly creepy. "Um, okay. Thanks."
"No problem, kid. He can handle just about anything."
I nodded and vanished into my room, shutting the door quietly. "J.A.R.V.I.S.?" I say in a normal tone, hoping he hears me. A light in the far top corner of my room turned on.
"How can I help you, Bela?"
"I need help with names. Can... can you see me?"
"I can see everything."
Oh God, he watches me get dressed among other things.
"That's- uh, great. Anyway, take a look at this sketch." I figured he'd already scanned it, saved it, memorized it, watched me draw it, everything. "What would be good names with this?"
"Well, I can search up different names of other languages that mean 'fire', if that was your intention."
"I don't think I have any intentions, just as long as it looks cool."
There was a long moment of silence and I looked out the dark window at the stars that twinkled in the sky like tiny little diamonds in the rock, just waiting to be collected.
"I've found these different ideas that may work for you." He- he? It? Whatever, he listed off a ton of different names.
I stop him, holding a hand out. Why? Good question. "What does Arpina mean?"
"Rising of the sun," he explained.
I'll admit, that ones pretty cool. Though, it's more of a normal name than a name for a person with a suit.
He kept listing them off and I kept quiet. I didn't really like any of them.
I paced around "my" room, deep in thought. Or, trying to be. My mind kept wandering off as more images flashed through my mind of two people I don't recognize. I would shake my head and sigh every time.
It's been hours. The moon is high above, and I'm supposed to be up early tomorrow.
I throw my pajamas on and lay in "my" bed, closing my eyes. That's when it popped into my head. Not a name- a thing.
The covers had somehow wandered to the floor as I jumped out of the bed and picked up the pencil. I scribbled in large letters under the best version of the suit I could draw.
"The Phoenix".
