#32 For S (Half-Poem, Half-Memory)

I never thought
of the way you came.
It was like normal
of all things
like night and day.
Your presence
is almost, always
an assurance
of laughter
and grins.

We go on late night walks,
and air-light talks
even if you always
had fewer words.

We had spun good times
like they're spider webs
and catch happy memories
like they're our prey.

We grow and yield
in our own ways now
but still we feel the need
to hear our voices
like nothing ever is real
until we talk.

And tonight,
I'd like to hear about you.

I guess,
what I'm trying to say,
is that there is someone
who will come our way
the way you came.
They will share the world
and share the same dreams.
They will make you believe
in laughter,
in silly words,
in 2 am coffee breaks,
in comfort food
and even in longivety
of memories
and the universe.
They make you feel alive
even in your death-filled days.

So I will guard
these memories
like the last sentinel
of a dynasty.
For these are the thread
that we will weave again,
somewhere,
someday.
Because I think,
friendship works this way.

No warning when it begins
no boundaries when it blooms
and no end when it's true.
And that is why
I never thought
of how you came.

Because tonight,
I would just like to hear about you.
