I was in the kitchen, drinking my cup of coffee when I got the news.
I stood up immediately as I stared in disbelief at the television. I almost spilt coffee everywhere since I forgot to put it down first.
George was in the living room reading a picture book to two-year-old Ash who was sitting between his legs when I marched in.
"And then, when Marvin the sheep had eaten all of the grass on the planet, do you know what Marvin did?" George asked him and Ash shook his head wildly, with a massive toothy grin (all with gaps between and very small, but it was still a toothy grin).
"Georgie," I said suddenly and he jumped and looked around with a hand dramatically over his heart.
"Bloody hell, do you have to scare me like that?" he breathed, trying to catch oxygen in his lungs.
"First, can you not say that around him or he'll start sounding British," I started and George rolled his eyes. "And second, you need to come with me and see this." I gestured behind me casually.
"But we were just about to find out what Marvin did," George complained, softly rubbing circles into Ash's front.
"I mean this is really important, but I suppose if Marvin's life takes precedence," I replied with my hands on my hips sassily. "Trust me, you don't want to miss it."
"Hm, ok, but if Ash never finds out what Marvin did, it's your fault," George joked, picking Ash up in his arms and putting him on his own hip. He closed the book and put it to the side.
"You might want to put him in his chair because I have a feeling you'll need two hands," I told him and though he raised an eyebrow, he put Ash down and followed me into the kitchen. I pointed towards the tv and he turned his head to look.
Once he'd read what the news said, he grabbed my forearm suddenly, while still fixed on it and blinking to make sure it was real.
It was the 26th of June 2015.
"Clay," George turned to me with a smile which I returned and raised my eyebrows. "We're fucking getting married!"
"Hell, yeah we are!" I exclaimed and I pulled him closer to me, bending down so I could pick him up. I had one arm behind his bare thighs and the other behind his back, his hands flying to my shoulders. "Oh, George, I'm gonna marry the fuck out of you."
My hands held his legs like there would be marks left behind. I wanted there to be so there would be evidence of just how happy this made us.
George giggled as his eyes mine and he leaned in and kissed me hard. "Oh my god. It's happening! It's happening, Clay. You're going to be my husband!" he exclaimed when he pulled away. Though he went back in right away and I clutched him to me has he did.
We kissed with our eyes squeezed shut, and George had his hand firmly gripping my cheeks. It lasted a long time, not finishing as I backed towards the stairs. When I put him down in order to go up the stairs, we were panting and had tears in our eyes. We didn't go up straight away, just staring at each other and thinking about how great life was on that day.
"I love you so much," I told him and he blushed. Even now.
"I love you too, idiot," he replied through breaths.
George took my hand and began running up the stairs, creating thunder under his feet as he pulled me up. As soon as we got to the top, he yanked my t-shirt towards him so he could kiss me again and I let him, ambling backwards messily until we reached the bedroom. I kicked the door shut behind me, clicking it locked before we hit the bed.
